New Year Resolutions – Do You Make Them and Break Them?

Volume 2 Issue 1

Road sign saying 2013 AheadHappy New Year.  I hope that you had a wonderful holiday.
Each year as the New Year approaches we start thinking about New Years resolutions.  Some people get excited about the prospects of a new year and announce their resolution with great enthusiasm.  Others don’t even bother making a resolution because they never keep them and find that this is just another example of failure in their lives.  Believe me,we are not alone when it comes to not fulfilling their resolutions.  According to a study done by the University of Scranton. Journal of Clinical Psychology  published on 2012-12-13 only 45% of Americans usually make New Years Resolutions and only 8% of those who do are successful.  I knew from personal experience that many people do not make resolutions and that the success rate was low but these low results were a surprise.
What is it that makes it so hard to be successful in setting our goal and living up to it?  When things like this baffle me it seems the answers or clues to the answers, jump out at me and often from unusual sources.  This time I think I have found a clue to the answer and a solution through the words of my 85 year old aunt.

The Reiki Principles

Just of today I will give thanks for my many blessings.

Just for today I will not worry

Just of today I will not be angry

Just for today I will do my work honestly

Just for today I will be kind to my neighbour and every living thing.

New Year Resolutions – Do You Make Them and Break Them?

What holds us back from keeping our New Years Resolutions?  Do we base them on what the media and social influences lead us to believe are important or on what we believe to be important in our lives?  Are they an expression of our real desires?
Each year I think about the usual resolutions: eating healthy, exercising more, reading more, getting more “me” time.  I know that they are all good for me so why is it so hard for me to fulfill them?  We make these resolutions at the beginning of a year with the intent that we will do them for the entire year and in fact we want to do it for the rest of our lives.  When you think about it, a year long or life long commitment is rather a daunting task.  Top it off with the fact that many people are under the influence of alcohol when they make their resolutions!
It wasn’t until I was talking with my 85 year old aunt when I suddenly realized why my resolutions haven’t worked.

Diva Day is the key fundraiser for the London and District Distress Centre. The Distress Centre volunteers provide short-term empathetic listening and confidential telephone support, 24 hours a day. The Distress Centre depends on the publicity, awareness and revenue this exciting and fun event brings.

On Diva Day, 100 women enjoy an afternoon of pampering and relaxation. The Divas attend four 30-minute pampering sessions chosen from numerous wellness and personal therapy sessions. These include: manicures, pedicures, food and drink tastings, yoga, massages and more. Sessions are provided throughout the afternoon while relaxing in the tranquil setting of Windermere and enjoying exquisite hors d'oeuvres.

Her favourite saying: "Take Care and Keep Smiling"

Elizabeth is grateful she is able to smile.  Over the past 11 years Elizabeth has experienced episodes of nerve pain (trigeminal neuralgia) along the side of her face.  Some days it was difficult both physically and emotionally to smile.   Using Reiki in harmony with other natural therapies she has been medication free for over 5 years and she keeps smiling.

A smile gives a multitude of blessings to the receiver and the giver.
