The Prospect Heights Shul Presents:
Chulent with a Side of Si-YUM!

The First Annual Chulent Challenge & Siyum Masechet Brachot - Friday, May 6

 (winner, winner, chulent dinner)

Please join us for the first ever PHS Chulent Challenge on Friday, March 6, after davening @ 1027 Pacific Street, come feast on chulent prepared by your fellow community members and help crown the first ever PHS Chulent Champion.

What’s better than chulent? Pairing it with a Daf Yomi siyum (completion) of Masechet Brachot, celebrating Torah learning and honoring  those members of our community who have joined the current cycle of Daf Yomi and have recently completed their first tractate!

In addition to chulent and Torah, we will have kiddush, challah, salads, sides and dessert.

Following the chulent challenge, please stay for our community-member-led chaburot (learning groups) to hear reflections on the experience of learning Brachot and feast on some of the most meaningful and interesting morsels of Torah in this part of the Talmud (all puns intended).

Do you make a great chulent? Want to compete for the title?  We will have four categories: (1) traditional ashkenaz, (2) traditional sephardi, (3) non-traditional (e.g., chili, cassoulet), and (4) vegetarian/vegan.  All competitors will have to prepare their chulents @ 1027 on Thursday night March 5. Contact Michael Chasan ( for more details.
Act fast, limited spaces available.  More details here.

Are you doing Daf Yomi? Want to share a reflection on Brachot  with our community? Please contact Jina Davidovich ( to discuss opportunities to lead or craft the chaburot for this program.

We would like to thank Grow & Behold for providing their delicious kosher pastured meats to elevate all of the chulents.  We would also like to thank Rebecca and Michael Chasan and Simcha Nath for sponsoring this event.  We are seeking additional sponsors and volunteers to help organize and clean up after the event. Please email for more details.
