Reminder to join us tonight!

Back to school season may look a little different this year, but join your PHS friends for a virtual happy hour on Wednesday, September 9 at 8:30 PM, featuring our own Jackson Krule, who kick us off with a pre-High Holiday challah baking demo. RSVP encouraged here!
Location: zoom 9936188857 code 413665

Challah Baking with Jackson:
Jackson will lead an hour-long, no-frills class where we learn how to make Water Challah dough (which is vegan, but not Gluten Free), Oat flour Challah (Gluten Free but not vegan). And we'll learn 3 types of braiding: 3 braid, 6 braid and a round braid (for Rosh Hashana). A stand mixer would be ideal, but we can also work the dough by hand if need be.

Water Challah:
Active Yeast
Canola Oil
Bread Flour (all purpose flour works well too!)
(Eggs if you want to give it an egg wash)

Oat Flour Challah:
4 cups oat flour
1.5 cups Potato/Corn Starch
Xanthan Gum (no worries if you don't have)
4 Eggs
Seltzer (tap water works as well)

PHS's own Jackson Krule started a Challah business after Covid-19 halted his work as a photographer. At first he made challah for himself and his wife, Arielle. But soon he started dropping them off with friends via a pully system off his Crown Height's balcony. Then, he started mailing them all over the US. Since the start of Covid he has made over 2,500 challahs.
