Water Corporation works – Rokeby Road lane closures from 18 July

The Water Corporation will be renewing the water main along Rokeby Road from Monday 18 July to improve the security and reliability of Subiaco’s water supply. The first section of works will take place between Roberts and Bagot roads and is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete. The Water Corporation will be renewing the water main via a trench in the western (northbound) lane of Rokeby Road, surrounded by secured fences for the safety of pedestrians, drivers and workers.

The western side of Rokeby Road between Roberts and Bagot roads will be closed for the duration of the works (median strip, the entire northbound lane and some of the adjacent footpath). Traffic management will be in place as well as pedestrian access to businesses.

The Water Corporation will also be installing gas conduits on behalf of ATCO Gas during this time. This work by the Water Corporation precedes the city’s Rokeby Road upgrades.

The Water Corporation has been visiting all businesses along the strip this week to provide detailed information about the works. For more information about the water main renewal and its impact on Rokeby Road properties:

Upon completion of this section of road, the Water Corporation will continue south to renew the water main along the rest of Rokeby Road to the Thomas Street intersection. The renewal along the entire length of Rokeby Road is expected to be completed by December 2016.

The Water Corporation works will require the temporary suspension of some outdoor dining and street trading permits to ensure public safety. A notice has been sent to those affected businesses along Rokeby Road. If you wish to discuss permits, please contact the city’s environmental health services team on 9237 9254.

Your cooperation and understanding while this essential work is carried out is appreciated.

2016-17 budget
The City of Subiaco’s 2016-17 budget is expected to be adopted at a Special Council Meeting on 19 July 2016.

Council is aware of economic pressures for business owners and is considering all options to keep its rate rise as minimal as possible. Council has already cut $4 million from the 2016-17 draft budget however there is still a $1.3 million shortfall as a direct result of the City of Perth Act. Council is looking at a number of avenues to further close this gap.

Rates notices will be issued after the city’s annual budget has been adopted by Council.
