Making it easier to do business in Subiaco
A Change of Use planning policy has been developed by City of Subiaco in consultation with the community to support a simple, fast and clear assessment process.  The city is making it easier for new businesses to open their doors in Subiaco by eliminating the need for planning approval for change of certain land uses in the Subiaco Town Centre.

The new policy means that some new businesses, including shops, offices, consulting rooms and small bars, are exempt from submitting a development application for a change of land use, further reducing hurdles and speeding up the application process.

New business operators are encouraged to call the city on (08) 9237 9222 and speak with a planner to confirm that planning approval is not required for their new business. A copy of the policy can be downloaded here.

With successful new businesses opening, and more set to open in the coming weeks, there is growing confidence in the economic viability of Subiaco. The adoption of this policy follows recent initiatives to reinvigorate the Subiaco Town Centre including waiving alfresco dining and street trading fees, commencement of the $4 million Rokeby Road upgrade and a twelve month trial of three hour free parking.

Ward and representation review – how do you want to be represented?

There's still time to have a say on how you are represented by the City of Subiaco council. Recent changes have brought about the need for the city to review the layout of our wards and number of councillors.

Visit www.haveyoursaysubiaco.com.au to review the options and complete an online submission form on your preference for the structure of your council.
Alternatively, hard copy submission forms are available at the city’s Administration Centre or Subiaco Library.

Submissions close at 5pm on Tuesday 11 October.

Subiaco Night of Lights – Stall Holder registrations now open
Get involved in the Subiaco Christmas Night of Lights where the City of Subiaco will officially light up the streets.  The evening will be celebrated in true Christmas spirit with live music, roving entertainment, food trucks, Christmas choir, children’s activities, Flash mobs and pop-up performance, a free gift wrapping stand topped off with Santa Clause and lighting up the giant 9 metre Christmas Tree and Rokeby Road lights.

We are seeking creative, locally made and sourced stallholders for our upcoming sustainable community events.

We estimate 15-20,000 people at Subiaco Christmas Night of Lights and stalls will be capped at 15 food vendors and 45 non food stalls.

Rokeby Road Upgrades Underway
The City of Subiaco's streetscape improvement works on Rokeby Road are now underway.  Upgrades are scheduled to be completed by mid-November ahead of the Christmas shopping and events season.

The city’s work schedule has been designed to minimise disruption to local businesses and visitors, and reach completion as soon as possible, while also considering noise impacts for local residents. We’ve increased our working hours – core works will take place at night between 6pm and 6am, with noisy work finishing by 11pm. Additional works will take place during the day to facilitate the evening and night works, and may involve some short-term, localised road closures.

For details on the project, including contact details for afterhours and business enquiries, please visit the city’s website www.subiaco.wa.gov.au/rokebyroad
