blackmarket: coming to the streets of Subiaco
‘blackmarket was one of the most rad, incredible, educational, exhilarating adventures of my lifetime... an original and unique concept executed masterfully…’ - Nancy doll, tweet after blackmarket: Sydney May 2015.
This February the City of Subiaco plays host to blackmarket, a public art intervention performance by Perth’s own tactical media art renegades pvi collective, as part of the 2016 Perth International Arts Festival (PIAF).
Part audio-driven intervention and part real-life video game, blackmarket invites guests into a dark underworld of entrepreneurial trading on the streets of Subiaco. In the fictional world of the urban game, the global financial crisis has arrived and participants must fight for survival as a ‘hustler’ within a blackmarket economy. Participants are exposed to an underground economic structure, trading possessions in return for survival skills and services. From psychological coping mechanisms to urban survival skills and weaponising garbage, blackmarket is highly immersive, instruction based and fun.
The PIAF season is nearly sold out, however the city is running several other blackmarket experiences to leverage off this exciting art performance and to activate the town centre. For information on how your business can get involved, read on.
