X marks the spot – be part of Race around Subi
Are you looking for a fun and effective way to engage potential customers, promote your business and help showcase Subiaco as a unique destination?

The city is looking for businesses who want to get involved with Race around Subi on Saturday 7 November.

Race around Subi is an annual community event based on the television show The Amazing Race, where teams of two to six people undertake challenges and answer questions at checkpoints throughout Subiaco.

The 2014 event attracted over 200 participants of all ages to Subiaco, and this year’s event is expected to be even bigger.

How your business can get involved:
  • run an activity checkpoint
  • create a window display a question can be based on
  • donate a prize
  • provide a daily offer for event participants (e.g. two-for-one or 20% off).
Activity examples from previous years include changing a bike tyre, shooting hoops and questions about coffee brands and window displays.

All businesses involved will be promoted through social media and acknowledged by the Mayor on the day. For more information, or to get involved, please contact the city's cultural services team on 9237 9216 or culture@subiaco.wa.gov.au

This year’s event will support charity partner the Heart Foundation, located on Rokeby Road.

2015 elections – your chance to make a difference
The city has six vacancies in the upcoming local government elections; north ward (2), east ward (1), central ward (2) and south ward (1).

Don’t miss your chance to vote – electoral rolls close on Friday 28 August.

If you operate a business or own property in the city, you may be eligible for enrolment on the city’s owner/occupier roll. Contact the city on 9237 9222 to check your listing or enquire about eligibility and registration.

Have you considered nominating for council? Elected members have the opportunity to participate in decision making processes and represent their community.

Nominations are open from Thursday 3 September to Thursday 10 September. For more information, visit the city’s website.

Subiaco Town Centre Network meets
Work to enhance the visitor and shopping experiences in Subiaco is underway, with the inaugural meeting of the Subiaco Town Centre Network held earlier this week.

The newly formed network includes six members from the local business community, representing the retail, hospitality, entertainment and professional services sectors.

The network will be promoting a positive image of Subiaco to the wider community and establish activation initiatives to revitalise the town centre. One of the first activities for the network will be assisting with the development of a brand identity for the Subiaco Town Centre and participating in its promotion.

For more information, visit the city's website

Father's Day in the town centre
There are just over two weeks to go until Father’s Day. On Saturday 5 September (ahead of Dad’s big day on Sunday) we’ll be holding a Father’s Day event in the town centre with sports activities, DIY moustache and bow tie crafts, and a family portrait photo shoot.

Hairdressers and barbers are encouraged to take part in our Subi Scissorhands competition – a battle of the fastest scissors in town!

Simply upload photographs of your fatherly clients with their freshly trimmed hair or beards to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and tag the image with your business name and @VisitSubiaco.

Many retail and hospitality businesses have started promoting special offers and unique gifts for dad available on and before the big day. Let us know how your business is getting involved by emailing place@subiaco.wa.gov.au and we will promote the relevant details on our social media channels.

Subiaco parklets on the move
The Subiaco parklets have received a great response from the local community and we're calling on town centre businesses who would like to have a parklet outside their store.

The next rotation is expected to take place in late September and we're on the look out for the perfect locations.

Register your interest to have a parklet installed outside your business by contacting the city's technical services team on 9387 0942.

City to Surf 2015
A reminder that the Chevron City to Surf for Activ will be passing through Subiaco on Sunday 30 August.

Show your support and get involved on the day by offering special deals for spectators who are in Subiaco cheering on their friends and family, or participants recovering after the event.

Please be aware that there will be road closures during the event. More details can be found on the City to Surf website.

Footpath signage and displays
Advertising and product displays on footpaths in the town centre can create interest and attract passing customers, however there are also important safety and access issues to consider.

When placing products outside your store, please apply for a Street Trading Permit – Local Business Display in accordance with the city’s Trading in Public Places Local Law 2014. Remember to
keep the footpath clear to allow for easy pedestrian access to your and other businesses, footpath maintenance and other works.

For more information on the regulations and approvals processes for signage, external product displays and outdoor dining, please visit the city's website.

Subiaco Oval survey
There’s still time to provide your feedback on the impact the relocation of AFL football from Subiaco Oval will have on your business and Subiaco.

The city has engaged Professional Public Relations (PPR) to conduct a major survey of community stakeholders to assess the social, economic and cultural impact of the relocation.

Visit the Have your say Subiaco website before Monday 7 September to complete the survey – your views are very important to us.
