Neerpelt – The EMY starts off this week: from April 27 until May 2 the European Music Festival for Young People in Neerpelt will be the musical heart for children and youth choirs.
60th Music Festival 2012
Since 60 years, groups from all over Europe and beyond come to Neerpelt to participate in the European Music Festival for Young People. This annual musical feast is alternately organized for choirs and for instrumental ensembles. Each year, thousands of young people render the colourful and flag-brightened streets of Neerpelt an international atmosphere of fraternisation. Apart from the jury performances evaluated by an international jury, the public can enjoy all kinds of happenings and evening concerts. The 60th EMY in figures
Next weekend, 86 choirs from 23 countries are travelling to Neerpelt. They come from all over Europe, but even beyond, from China and South-Africa. The dazzling total of kilometres all these choirs cover to get to the festival is enough to travel more than 4 times around the earth. Read more
Compulsory songs and composers
On the occasion of vocal festivals, the organising committee has – since 1960 – charged mainly Flemish composers with the task to write compulsory songs for all participating choirs in the various categories. In 1994 exactly 100 compositions had been created. Today, there are 154. Read more.
