Press release : The 61th European Music Festival for Young people in Neerpelt
NEERPELT – From May 3 to May 6, 2013 the EMY, the European Music Festival for Young people, will be organised in Neerpelt (Belgium). Children and youngsters from all corners of Europe and even from China and Hong Kong will then travel to the small town in Northern-Limburg in order to make music there and to fraternize. On Friday-evening 200 children from Neerpelt will welcome the young European musicians during the kick-off, followed by a brandnew and breathtaking opening-act, entitled “ A Taste of Neerpelt” on the market-square in the centre of the town.
On Saturday and on Sunday it is time for the more serious activities: more than 100 instrumental groups – duos, jazzcombos, fanfares, brassbands, string orchestras – will show the public what they have been rehearsing for in the past few months. Their performances will be judged by an international jury. The jury-performances will take place on 8 different locations in Neerpelt, Overpelt and Achel, and they are open to audiences. Entrance-fees are remarkably low.
But EMY is much more than merely jury-concerts: there are workshops for the participating groups, fraternization-concerts, lively proclamations of the prizes, the Happening and more. On Saturday and Sunday-evening, the best ensembles will perform during the laureate-concerts at the Dommelhof Theatre.
