Gambling Harm and Crime Careers


This article, published in the March issue of the Journal of Gambling Studies, applied latent class analysis and criminal career theory to gambling data collected from a sample of English and Scottish, male and female prisoners.

A significant association was found between higher level loss chasing and high rate offending in criminal careers.


Call for Proposals: Manitoba Gambling Research Program

The Manitoba Gambling Research Program is accepting proposals for the following:

  • Studentships (up to $60,000) - deadline March 8, 2017
  • Large Grants (up to $450,000) - LOI deadline March 22, 2017

Conference grant applications (up to $2,000) are also available year-round from Manitoba researchers and students.

Toolkit Available: Gambling Disorder Screening Day


Gambling Disorder Screening Day is a one-day event held annually on the second Tuesday of March during Problem Gambling Awareness Month. Established in 2014 by the Division on Addiction at Cambridge Health Alliance, Screening Day has included supporters and screeners from around the world.

This year's Screening Day Toolkit has even more free resources for hosts, staff and clients to make hosting Screening Day easier than ever. Any provider or organization can host.

Call for Proposals: Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation Prevention Partnerships Program 


The Victoria Responsible Gambling Foundation is accepting applications for grants for programs and initiatives that test new ideas and deliver prevention activities to at-risk populations across Victoria, building the evidence for effective practice in the prevention of gambling harm.

Applications for grants are welcome from community, not for profit organisations, social enterprise, local government or public health organisations.

Call for Submissions: Journal of Gambling Issues Scholars Award for Research Excellence


The Journal of Gambling Issues has announced its second Scholars Award for Research Excellence, an annual competition designed to support outstanding scholars in problem gambling.

The best article will be selected in each of two streams: (a) clinical, ecological, social, and/or policy research, and (b) cognitive, developmental, biobehavioural, and/or neuroimaging research.


Job Posting: CCSA Sr. Research and Policy Analyst


The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) is seeking a subject-matter expert who conducts research, responds to research requests, and provides research-based policy analysis. This position is associated with a project to develop national low risk gambling guidelines.

Consideration of candidates will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.


Call for Applications: U of Sydney Gambling Treatment Clinic and RG Research Group


The University of Sydney Gambling Treatment Clinic (GTC) and Responsible Gambling Research Group is accepting applications for student internships on an ongoing basis.

The GTC provides treatment for gamblers and family members and the research group conducts world leading research to inform the understanding of gambling and minimise gambling-related harms.


Call for Proposals: NCRG Research Grants


The National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG) has announced the following research grants for the study of gambling disorder in 2017.

  • Travel Grants ($1,500) - ongoing
  • Seed Grants ($30,000)  - deadline August 1, 2017
  • Large Grants ($75,000) - letter of intent deadline June 1, 2017
