Scared Money Opens to Acclaim in Northern Ontario

RGC's newest play, Scared Money, has just started its Ontario tour in Northern Ontario, making stops in Moose Factory, Moosonee, Timmins and Sudbury, to very positive reviews.

As reported in the Timmins Press, guidance counsellor Kelly Ann Marks called the show "very engaging and relatable for the students. The actors … push a few limits … they make it interesting so that kids are really engaged in the presentation."

RGC Welcomes a Senior Project Manager

RGC is pleased to welcome Jacqueline Lacroix who, in her role as Senior Project Manager, will focus on providing support to the Responsible Gaming Resource Centres from the Toronto office, beginning on October 15.

Jacqueline brings over five years of experience developing and implementing educational programs. She has developed numerous trainings for adult volunteers, curriculum for online learners and in-service trainings.

OPGRC opens Research Awards and Capacity Development Grants

The Ontario Problem Gambling Research Centre (OPGRC) is now soliciting applications for Research Awards and Capacity Development Grants. OPGRC is currently soliciting for the following Research Awards:

  • Mid-Level Awards ($42,000) for empirical research, a stand-alone research project and/or preliminary research
  • Standard Research Awards ($120,000 per year for 1 to 3 years) 

OPGRC is currently soliciting for the following Capacity Development Grants:

  • Investigator Support Grant (up to $75,000) to provide salary support to one member of a Research Team
  • National and International Engagement Grant (up to $25,000) to provide research expertise and mentoring to Ontario research teams 
  • Research Seed Grant (up to $10,000) to provide an early stage building block for investigator capacity, and to fund preliminary research


Request for Proposals: Manitoba Gambling Research Program

The Manitoba Gambling Research Program is now accepting proposals and grant applications from across Canada for the following:

  • Focused Research “Strategies for Significant Others who are Concerned about an Individual with a Gambling Problem” (up to $130,000 per project awarded). Deadline for submissions is October 15, 2012.
  • Focused Research “Risk and Protective Factors of Gambling Among Young Adults: Analysis of the Manitoba Longitudinal Study of Young Adults (MLSYA) Data” (up to $70,000 per project awarded). Deadline for submissions is October 15, 2012.
  • Conference Grants (up to $2,000). Submissions are accepted year-round from Manitoba researchers.

Gambling Research Australia Offers New Tender Opportunity

Gambling Research Australia is soliciting proposals for an in-venue promotional material and player information study that will examine the channels and messages used to promote responsible gambling in venues in Australia and New Zealand.


Call for Applications: MLSYA Data Access Program

As of April 1, 2012, the Manitoba Longitudinal Study of Young Adults (MLSYA) Data Access Program began accepting applications from Manitoba researchers who would like to use this unique dataset for their own research studies.

The MLSYA followed a longitudinal sample (n=679) of 18 to 20 year olds from across Manitoba over a five year period from 2007 to 2011.
