The team at Performance Podiatry & West End Physio present an August update!
Kicking goals in August!
August has yet again been another busy month for us in the clinic. Vanessa completed her Pilates mat work certification with Polestar Pilates, congratulations Vanessa! This course, taking 12 months to complete, allows Vanessa to teach Pilates mat classes now. With over 50 teaching hours under her belt, she is ready to hit the ground running!

Kent presented at the Australian Podiatry Association national virtual conference. The conference was attended by over 1000 podiatrists across the country over a weekend, all from the comfort of their own homes! Kent presented on the management of foot drop. Foot drop occurs when the nerve supplying the muscles in the front of the leg are disrupted or damaged. This debilitating and often permanent condition results in patients not being able to lift the foot through the swing phase of walking which results in trips and falls. This can be caused by knee trauma in car accidents, stroke and spinal injuries just to name a few. Kent and the podiatrists at Performance Podiatry are among the leading podiatrists in Australia in managing this condition with an innovative bracing technique (the Richie brace) to allow patients to live a normal life.

Hamstring Injury

The hamstrings are the three main muscles in the back of the thigh. They run from the top of your shin bone to the bony part in your buttock (ischial tuberosity). Their main purpose is to bend the knee though they also help extend (straighten) the hip. The most common Hamstring injury is a tear to the muscle belly. This is particularly common in sport and usually happens when sprinting. Classically the person will feel a sudden onset of pain in the back of the thigh or buttock that will cause them to ‘pull up’.

Have a look at this video for an example of this injury. It shows Usain Bolt injuring his hamstring in a 4x100m see this video and continue reading this article, head on over to our blog.
