Kate Petley:
New monoprints
Kate Petley: Sideways 9, 2016. Intaglio and relief mono print on Somerset Textured paper. 21 ½" x 27". Published by Manneken Press.

Manneken Press publishes 15 new monoprints by Kate Petley.

We happily welcomed Kate Petley for her second visit to Manneken Press earlier this year. Kate created two groups of monoprints, titled Sideways and Upside, resulting in fifteen new works that are related yet unique. The dramatic colors, layered imagery and repetition of forms within the series echo themes in her current painting practice. The prints are now available exclusively from Manneken Press.

Petley composed her images using elements that included a hand-drawn gradient printed from a direct gravure plate, relief-printed color gradients, and in the Sideways prints, a shaped plate printed in transparent colors.

Kate Petely: Upside 1 and Upside 6, 2016. Intaglio and relief monoprints on Somerset Textured paper, 27" x 21 ½" each. Published by Manneken Press.

The release of Kate Petley's monoprints marks our fourth published project this year. Previously in 2016 Manneken Press released a portfolio of photogravures by Philip Van Keuren, two monoprint series by Gary Justis, and a woodcut edition and monotypes by Jack Davidson. There are still a few prints available from Kate Petley's highly successful 2013 monoprint project.

Look for Manneken Press at the Editions/Artist Book Fair, November 3-6 at The Tunnel in New York City.

Kate Petley is an American abstract painter whose work addresses the subtleties of location and atmosphere, specifically of her home in the mountainous regions of Colorado. In her paintings and prints Petley conveys psychologically charged space using layered images with multiple references, color, vividly enhanced marks, and dramatic compositions.

Petley's work has been exhibited at the MCA Denver, the Museum of South Texas, the Nicolaysen Museum, Martin Museum at Baylor University, the Museum of the Southwest, Diverseworks Houston, the Center for Contemporary Art Santa Fe, and the Harwood Museum of Art, Taos.

Collections include the Houston Airport System, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Nicolaysen Museum, UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, Denver Children’s Hospital, Polsinelli LLC in Dallas, Denver, and Chicago, Suntrust Bank Atlanta, Intercontinental Exchange Atlanta, Morgan Stanley San Francisco, Vail Industries, and Fidelity Investments Boston and Denver.

Petley was awarded a Ucross Foundation Fellowship in 2016, and completed an invitational residency at the Franz Mayer of Munich Architectural Art Glass studio in Germany in 2015. She is the recipient of numerous awards including an NEA Rockefeller Foundation Grant. Her installations and two-dimensional works have been widely reviewed and documented, noted for exaggerating the unusual nature of our everyday world.
