"Toward What Sun?", Vol.1
Ten photogravures by Philip Van Keuren.
Co-published by the artist and Manneken Press.

Philip Van Keuren: "Fountain", 2016. Photogravure, 8" x 12". Edition of 12.
Manneken Press is pleased to announce the release of a portfolio of ten photogravures by Philip Van Keuren. "Toward What Sun?", Volume 1, is the first of at least four planned volumes of editions printed from an archive of more than forty photogravure plates; a new volume of ten images will be issued annually.

Philip Van Keuren has been making photographs for many years. His images are prompted by everyday observations that reveal the world as sublimely beautiful while simultaneously unknowable. With an intense interest in seeing his images realized as photogravures, Van Keuren approached Manneken Press in 2009 and the platemaking for this project has continued gradually since then. The images in Volume 1 range from landscapes and architectural details to images of trees and fountains.  They are hand-printed on Hahnemuhle Copperplate paper from copper photogravure plates made at Manneken Press from the artist's original 35mm negatives. The image sizes are 12 x 8 inches, sheet sizes are 18" x 14".  Individual impressions from the editions of 12 are now available, and several complete sets of Volume 1 are reserved to be issued as portfolios, each housed in a custom, cloth-covered case with letterpress-printed colophon. All ten images in Volume 1 can be viewed here.
