NURSING STUDENTS ADMINISTER COVID VACCINE AT RCCD CLINICS

RCCD is continuing to work to ensure a safe return to school for faculty, classified professionals, and students.

RCCD, in partnership with Albertsons, has hosted six vaccination clinics (two held at each college). RCC Nursing students play a vital role in administering the vaccine. They, along with EMT and paramedic student volunteers from MVC, assisted with giving COVID-19 shots to more than 3,500 faculty, classified professionals, and students.

AJENÉ WILCOXSON EARNS TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), a worldwide organization, honored Dr. Don Ajené Wilcoxson, professor, Business and Entrepreneurship with the 2021 Teaching Excellence Award. 

Wilcoxson was recognized for exemplifying teaching excellence among college and university faculty and received the Region 7 award representing associate degree awarding institutions. He is one of only 20 faculty to earn this prestigious award this year.

RCCD MODEL UNITED NATIONS WINS OUTSTANDING DELEGATION

The Riverside Community College District Model United Nations (MUN) team, a joint delegation with seventeen students from five universities in Japan, won the Outstanding Delegation award at the 2021 International Model United Nations Conference held virtually March 28-31.

The team consisted of twenty-five students from Moreno Valley, Norco, and Riverside City colleges, as well as seventeen Japanese students. As a whole, they registered the largest delegation RCCD has ever assembled and sent to an international conference.

The District's delegation competed as two teams, one representing Sweden, with the Japanese students and the other representing Saudi Arabia, a team of exclusively RCC students.

DANCE PERFORMANCE SELECTED FOR  INAUGURAL SCREENDANCE FESTIVAL

RCC’s Dance and Pilates program was featured at the American College Dance Association’s (ACDA) Inaugural Screendance Festival on April 10. The College’s entry was one of 30 selected among the 152 submissions and was one of only two community college submissions to be featured in the Festival.

The 30 selected screendances were showcased during one of three Gala Concerts. RCC’s piece was presented in the second gala. The concerts weren't open to the public; however, the piece can be viewed on the RCC Dance program’s YouTube channel.

COSMETOLOGY SALON REOPENING

The Cosmetology salon officially reopened the morning of April 28 after being closed for more than a year. Long-time client Melody Waltz was the first customer to receive services. She was greeted by Cosmetology students, faculty, and staff.

“This is the first time I have been able to go out and visit for over a year,” Waltz said. “I miss the students terribly.” She had to catch her breath with all the excitement of having her hair styled by Cosmetology students.

BLACK STUDENT SUCCESS WEEK CELEBRATED

Faculty, classified professionals, and students at RCC, along with community colleges throughout the state, participated in the second annual Black Student Success Week, April 26 – 30. Events were designed to teach attendees about inequality in higher education, ways to get involved in advocacy, and approaches for improving success amongst Black and African American students. This year’s theme was "Follow the Money: Unapologetically Supporting Black Students."
 
Events like this demonstrate RCC's commitment to ensuring the academic and social success of our Black and African American students.

MEGANNE CRUZ NAMED CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

MegAnne Cruz has been named the David Dant Employee of the Month for April 2021. She is an evening custodian in the Facilities department and was selected for her exemplary service and commitment to excellence in performance of her job duties. MegAnne joined the RCC team 2018 and in the brief time she has been employed at the College, she has made significant impact in the department. Her colleagues and supervisors appreciate her positive attitude and commitment to service. In addition to being a full-time employee MegAnne is a full-time college student.

The David Dant Employee of the Month recognition program was created to recognize employees who have served the college in an exceptional manner through their hard work while exhibiting a positive and supportive attitude.

The Alumnus of the Year Award recognizes achievement of an exceptional nature in any field as well as contributions to the community and/or RCCD colleges. Today, each president recognizes their own college Alumnus of the Year. The District’s highest honor, RCCD Alumnus of the Year, is bestowed by the Chancellor. This year’s honorees will be recognized during the 2021 Giving Week events.
