Bulletin takes a short break

Due to the resignation of the MAV Insurance Bulletin’s editor, Janet Umina, the bulletin will not be published next month. Any essential communications with members during this time will be made via email. It’s expected that the bulletin will resume before Christmas once an appointment has been made by the MAV.

Post-event analysis guidance document

A guidance document on the theory and process of post-event analysis, otherwise known as significant incident analysis, has been released. The document, produced by Liability Mutual Insurance, focuses on liability incidents, but can be applied to a range of other exposures.

Volunteers’ out-of-pocket medical expenses

Volunteers’ out-of-pocket medical expenses that are incurred as a result of an injury while volunteering aren’t covered by MAV Insurance’s Liability Mutual Insurance (LMI) policy. Personal accident insurance for volunteers doesn’t provide protection and neither does workers’ compensation legislation unless the volunteer is considered a worker under one of the special categories, such as for emergency workers.

Unless the injured volunteer has private health insurance, they won’t be covered for anything that isn’t covered by Medicare.

Busy fire season expected for Victoria

A fire preparation tool, the Southern Australia seasonal bushfire outlook 2013 – 14, has been published by the Bushfire CRC. The tool includes regional summaries, and rainfall and bushfire potential analyses.

GRC Conference

The annual Governance, Risk & Compliance Conference will be held from Wednesday 30 October to Friday 1 November at Crown Promenade, Melbourne. The Risk Management Institute of Australasia (RMIA) and the Australasian Compliance Institute are hosting this event. Early bird registration for RMIA members is $1945.

Seminar postponed

The second seminar of the 2013 seminar series, originally scheduled to be held in November, has been postponed and will be held in early 2014.
