Dear Parents & Whānau,
Welcome to Term 4! We hope you had a relaxed break over the holidays and are refreshed for what is always an action-packed, busy term.
This week you will be getting permission letters and more information about the EOTC events that will be held from December 5th through to the 9th. Once you receive these letters, you can then reach out to the teacher in charge of the event if you have questions. There is already a buzz around the school about these events! You can imagine that organising so many different activities for 450 students is a massive task and I would like to thank the teachers and support staff for all the work they have done so far.
Do you know of anyone interested in enrolling at SWIS? Ask them if they have sent in an enrolment form and if not, then pass on this newsletter to them. Here is the link to the online enrolment form.
Friday, October 28th, is our chance to shine at the Poly Fest in Masterton! We have 30 students taking part, and this is being led by Stephen, Maria and Fananga. I can't wait to join them out there and see their smiles as they perform!
Finally, just a reminder that this Friday is a Teacher Only Day and Monday is a Public Holiday for Labour Weekend.

SWIS Board casual vacancy for a parent representative
A casual vacancy has occurred on the school board for an elected parent representative. The board has decided to fill the vacancy by selection. If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held. Request for a by-election should be sent either via email or post by Tuesday 29 November to:

Sunhat & Sunscreen reminder
As we head into the summer term, just a reminder that during Terms 1 and 4 all children are encouraged to wear a sunhat that covers their forehead and neck when they are outside. Children are welcome to wear a hat from home; SWIS sunhats are also available at a reasonable cost.
Please ensure your child/ren have a named sunhat in their bag. Sunscreen in their bag is a good idea too. Talk to them about keeping safe in the sun. The School will provide sunscreen for students. There is also a really decent supply of sunscreen at the school office if anyone needs it.

Congrats to our Future Problem Solving Scenario writers!
Our three Future Problem Solving scenario writers made the second round of evaluation, i.e. the top ten! (There were 42 Junior scenarios submitted from across New Zealand.) Dwiti made it into the top 5, while Alice and Flo just narrowly missed out on a top 5 placing.
Dwiti has been invited to the FPSNZ National Finals (which are virtual again this year) and her scenario will be submitted to the International competition next year.
Well done to all of you!
