Blackad Newsletter

September 2014: contact us pages, typo horrors,
and a little something for charities.

So. We've finally got our act together. Our excuse? We've been so busy writing things for clients that we haven't had time to write for ourselves. We're changing that, so here's that email we promised – ahem – a while ago.

How to catch your typos

Most people's nightmares consist of clothes-free forays through the town centre. And pointing - lots of pointing. If you're a copywriter, it's typos that send you bolt upright in clammy terror.

You could trust blind luck and the Word spell checker, but there are better ways to arm yourself against these copy-dwelling demons.

The 'contact us' page needs a writer

Your contact page needs to be simple, but it shouldn't be sterile. We picked over four ecommerce sites to see how they strike the balance between brand language and Ruddy Big Phone Numbers.

IF YOUR CHARITY WRITES DIGITAL COPY, WE COULD TRAIN YOU FOR FREE

We run a monthly public digital copywriting course, packed full of tips and tweaks to get your messages bang-on.

Unfortunately, those who could really do with this training usually don't have a budget for it. So every month, we’ve decided to give away one spot on the course to a UK charity. Not a charity? Book on one of our public courses.

ONCE A MONTH, Learn to write like us

If you hurry, you could grab a place on one of our public web copywriting courses. The London one's on Thursday 13 November, and the Glasgow one's on Thursday 27 November.

The sessions are packed with insights and tricks to get your copy working beautifully online. We even throw in a tasty lunch.

THREE SECRET PROJECTS
WE CAN'T TELL YOU ABOUT

A whisky distilled in the same year Alan was born. A soft drink brand's ludicrously good idea for promotional packaging. And a script that's going to be read by someone so famous, we couldn't quite believe the brief.

But unfortunately we can't tell you any more  such is the unspoken bond of the copywriter. Shame. Maybe in the next newsletter.
