Message from the ESAA President
Hello ESAA Board members and friends,
Ordinarily my monthly message contains news of upcoming events, and programs, accomplishments attained, and a restatement of our Scouting principles to guide us forward. Regrettably, the effects Covid-19 have deeply impacted our calendar and accomplishments.
For example, the NESA Western Region Scholarship selection meeting scheduled for April 4, 2020 in San Jose has been cancelled. The Western Region Board had already converted the meeting into a conference call only session. However, the BSA National Staff are unable to provide the necessary technical support for the meeting due to Covid-19. I will certainly report back to you when the meeting is rescheduled.
Our joint venture in April with I Love A Clean San Diego has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2020. Governance of the San Diego Imperial Council has gone virtual for the month of March. Our Council Board meeting was by conference call only. All Council facilities are closed. All Council group events, meetings, and training sessions have been cancelled for the month of March.
Despite these setbacks Covid-19 reinforces and magnifies the value and benefits of our allegiance, and commitment to the bedrock of the Scouting principles set forth in the Scout Oath and Law.
The moral compass of Scouting is more important and relevant than ever during this pandemic. We need to keep ourselves physically strong and mentally awake. How else can we help others at all times? Being helpful, friendly courteous, and kind will certainly benefit our entire community. Public health officials are constantly advocating the benefits of personal hygiene, and cleanliness. As an Eagle Scout I have every confidence you are up for these challenges.
It is my sincere hope for you and your family to remain safe and healthy as we navigate this unchartered territory.
