What's New

This week we’re sharing our Cobble Hill/BK Heights neighborhood guide, highlighting new spots to dine at and introducing you to a cool new friend: Jeanette Reza of Jiu Jie.

Culture Corner

COOL NEW THING

We recently had dinner at Bacàn — a new Williamsburg restaurant who serves fun, easy, Italian tapas. It’s maybe the best spot for a first date in the neighborhood! Our recommended order: The polpette, the caponata, a roman pizza, and a nice bottle of chilled red :)

SHOP

A fun recent discovery while scrolling on IG…online modern hardware shop, Yuns, is popping up in BK this weekend! Grab some new cool tools & useful objects at the pop-up inside of Lichen - Sat & Sun at 98 Moore Street :)

EAT

East Williamsburg’s Cozy Royal is hosting a new Sunday supper series. Stop by at the end of each weekend for their four-course Italian-American feast, (with optional bottomless Italian wine omg). Make special ressy’s for the saucy Sunday supper here.

Neighborhood Guide:
Cobble Hill & Brooklyn Heights

So you might already have noticed this from our stories & posts, but we love Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights. These sister neighborhoods have some of Brooklyn’s best shopping, dining, and ~hangs~. Enough of our teasing! We’ve finally put together a guide of all the places to hit while you’re in one of our favorite slices of South Brooklyn. Check it allll out on our website by tap tapping that button below :)

Cool Friends: Jeanette Reza

Meet Jeanette, the founder of Jiu Jie — a wonderfully fun decor brand who is most well known for knotted pillows in bold velvets and cottons. We caught up with Jeanette to hear how she got her luxe pillow factory* (*all made by hand in the East Village) off the ground.

How did you start Jiu Jie, your knot pillow brand?

I started making knot cushions in 2016 when I first moved to NYC from Shanghai. It was initially a hobby, I was gifting them to friends and family on special occasions and kept getting asked where I was selling them. Coming from a fashion background I always knew I wanted to have my own brand so eventually created the online store in 2018 and started working full time on them during the quarantine in 2020.

What's your favorite part about the New York creative community?

I love how individually creative everyone is and seeing my peers growing together and achieve the goals I have seen them work so hard to achieve. I always appreciate people in NYC who are open to collaborating and bouncing off creative ideas. I'm a firm believer that we grow in clusters and feel absolutely privileged to be considered part of such a thriving and diverse community.
