What's New

This week we’re highlighting (lots of) cool new things, putting plant swaps and sammie pop-ups in your calendar, and sharing our Park slope neighborhood guide.

Culture Corner

If you're overwhelmed with all the new happenings in the city lately and need a little help choosing ones to cross off your list, look no further: Here are 4 new spots to check out in the city this weekend:

Pillow-Cat Books
The city’s first animal-focused bookshop just opened up in the East Vill. Pillow Cat Books is filled with every type of animal book your heart could desire - used, new, antique, art, literature…stop by to see for yourself at 328 East 9th Street.

Mo’s General

Wburg’s newest ‘za spot has arrived. Mo’s General is slingin’ pizzas and offers small provisions in their market on the corner of Lorimer & Skillman. Stop by the shop for a slice, a coffee, or the ingredients to make pizza at home tonight.

La Cabra

Danish coffee roasters, La Cabra, are opening their first NYC cafe TODAY in the East Village at 152 2nd Ave! Swing by for thoughtful brews, soft modern interiors, and delicious pastries baked in-house.

If you’ve been reading for a while, you know that we here at HQ love a good diner. That’s a big part of why we’re so excited about one of the West Village’s newest spots — Bandits. The vibe is self-described as a modern take on an old-school dive (and yes, even the outdoor dining (pictured) is cool.) You can expect updated comfort food and thoughtful (read: FUN!) cocktails...see u there ;)

One of our favorite spots to grab lunch in Prospect Heights, Ciao Gloria, is celebrating the launch of their new piadina sammie this weekend…with cool friend Dan Pelosi! Stop by this Saturday from 11-3p to try the sam of the szn and say hi to Dan :)

Greenpoint plant showroom, Horti PLAY, is hosting a plant swap this Sunday at 12p!! Bring a plant you’d like to swap & mingle with other plant parents <3 There will be Recess, Sound & discounts on Horti PLAY plantsssss. What are you waiting for?? RSVP for the free event there!

OMG. One of the most special movie theaters in the city, Metrograph, is BACK OPEN!! We’ve missed their small theaters & ridiculously cool and unique snax and cannot wait to go back. Head here to check out everything playing in theaters rn.

Neighborhood Guide:
Park Slope

If you’ve lived in New York long enough, you begin to realize there’s occasionally a paradox about spots in your own neighborhood: the closer you live to something, the less often you actually go there. That’s why we’ve been exxxxtra careful at making sure we’ve personally vetted every recommendation on our Park Slope list. This list is the culmination of a year and a half of exploring our own neighborhood and asking ourselves, “why haven’t we been here yet?!” So enjoy! And if you ever move to Park Slope, you’re welcome in advance.
