What's New

This week we’re sharing a few pop-ups to visit, highlighting a new midtown cafe, and filling you in on all things New York Film Festival.

Culture Corner

Okay, we cannot wait to try Midtown’s newest Italian cafe, Lodi. The new spot is located at 1 Rockefeller Plaza, and is single-handedly convincing us that Rockefeller Center might be cool?? Anyway around, we’ll be snacking on their gorg choco croissants tomorrow morning and are excited to report back.

The Noguchi Museum
Objects of Common Interest: Hard, Soft and All Lit Up with Nowhere to Go

You know those museums that instantly give you a burst of inspiration the second you walk through the door? For us, that’s the Noguchi Museum. There’s always a good reason to visit the LIC space, but especially right now. Objects of Common Interest has a brand new show, Hard, Soft and All Lit Up with Nowhere to Go, which is on view at the Noguchi now ‘til February 13th. Expect light sculptures, interactive, moving pieces, and lots of cooooool textures.

Rockefeller Center
Maurice Harris

Any Full Bloom fans here? Maurice Harris is debuting a collection of floral photography for a show at Rockefeller center. Stop by his hallway of large scale images up now until Nov 7th!

The Metropolitan Museum of Art
In America: A Lexicon of Fashion

With all the fanfare of the Met Gala, sometimes it can be hard to remember that each year the celeb-filled parade opens a new show for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s costume center. Something extra extra cool about this year...the work of cool friend Sarah Nsikak is featured! (AND pictured here) Head to the exhibit while it’s up (until literally next September) and be sure to read Sarah’s cool friends interview here

We’re SO excited to share that cool friend, Lauren Williams’, boutique - Lolo, is BACK! Go celebrate the opening tonight (& help her finish all of her wedding wine) at 192 Amity Street in Cobble Hill! Head here to stay updated on Lolo’s shop offerings and her new hours :)

More cool friends doing cool things! This past weekend, the New York City Ballet returned to Lincoln Center with cool friend Jenelle Manzi on stage. Tickets for this season are going fast so grab them while you can, and read about Jenelle (and her very very cool brand Get Golden) here!.

This week we’re super excited to welcome back Elissa Suh of MOVIEPUDDING as a guest contributor. Here's Elissa’s guide to the 2021 NYFF →

Today begins the 59th New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center, which usually coincides with the city’s first blush of autumn though this week has kinda felt like anything but. One of the main draws is Dune, but besides checking out how one Timothee Chalamet stands up against planetary desert winds, here are a few more things to put on your radar:

  • Benedetta, a deliciously profane tour de force of lesbian nun life that could only come from the director of Show Girls and Total Recall.
  • Joaquin Phoenix chock full of shaggy charisma road tripping with a young nephew in C’mon C’mon, feat. gorgeous b&w photography.
  • Clocking in at 72 minutes, Petite Maman, a delicately charming biscuit of a movie from the director of Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
  • The lurid shock and awe of Titane, which features improbable impregnation by car, gender fluidity, serial killers, and more in the year’s most unclassifiable, batshit crazy movie that’s also extremely moving — not for the faint of heart!
