Greetings TARTans,

The time has come to celebrate. Celebrate the passion, persistence and patience that has finally paid off with the completion of the Loop around Boardman Lake. While the paved trail, boardwalk, and bridges in and of themselves are exciting, the real reason to celebrate is all of you - the countless individuals, community partners, and stakeholders who have worked together for years in order to achieve this outcome. Additionally, other than the bayfront during Cherry Festival, the average daily traffic on the Loop exceeds that of any other stretch of trail within the TART Trails network. All those happy, smiling faces enjoying those summer walks, rides, sights, and sounds along the Loop is what it's all about. We very much hope you will join us for the celebration next Friday at Medalie Park where we'll have a chance to thank you in person, cut ribbons, and punctuate the completion of a community project in the books for the enjoyment and benefit of generations to come.

Celebrate With Us!
After more than thirty years, community dreams came true as construction crews wrapped up asphalt, bridges and boardwalks to complete the loop around Boardman Lake just last month. We are excited to come together with the community for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Medalie Park on Friday, August 19 at 6 pm to celebrate this incredible journey and milestone! You’re invited to join us for music and light refreshments beginning at 5:30 pm, the ceremony will follow. We're gearing up for an entire weekend of fun. More here.
TART Bayfront Improvement & Expansion Project
The City of Traverse City is requesting proposals from consulting landscape architectural/civil engineering firms to provide final design and construction administration services for the Traverse Area Recreation Trail (TART) improvements and expansion between West End Beach and the intersection of Garfield Avenue/US 37 and Eastern Avenue, located within the City of Traverse City. One firm will be selected as a qualified firm to provide the engineering services for the project. View RFP here.

Aspire North REALTORS® was awarded a grant by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) to support the installation of a FixIt station at the Shady Lane Trailhead on the Leelanau Trail. Thank you Aspire North REALTORS and NAR for supporting the trails and ensuring our community can get safely on their way!

Many, many thanks to Chuck, Gary, Dale, Nate, Theo, Steve, and Dave (whew, say that three times fast)!  We want to extend our gratitude to the incredible team of volunteers who helped us lay the foundation for an exciting Art on the TART project on the Loop. Thank you for helping us enrich the trail with public art!

Shout out to Rotary Charities of Traverse City! With support from Rotary Charities Seed Grant program, TART Trails planners will prepare for launching a conceptual plan connecting neighborhoods to Blair Elementary School and future planned Blair Township facilities. We are incredibly grateful for their support in our goal to make every home a trailhead. Thank you!

We want to extend gratitude to the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, whose 2% allocation awarded support to Recycle-A-Bicycle! This summer alone, the Grand Traverse Band has allocated an incredible $605,175.53 to local organizations. Thank you!

Our friends at Cambium Analytica show off their support of a connected and healthy community by sponsoring a wayfinding sign/kiosk at the new and improved Shady Lane trailhead on the Leelanau Trail. Not only are they leading innovative stability studies and compliance testing statewide, but they are giving back to their community's health and wellness by supporting community events and local trails. We checked in with them recently and here's what they had to say...

"The TART Trail network provides a vast amount of activity and valuable opportunity for our community members to play, commute, or exercise in a safe space. Our goal at Cambium Analytica is to help promote a healthier Grand Traverse area and by supporting TART Trails we can help facilitate this effort for our hometown."

Do you know what a Fixit Station is and where you can find one?
Hopefully you won't need one anytime soon, but if you find yourself in a pickle, TART Trails and local bike loving businesses have you covered. The Fixit includes all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. The tools are securely attached to the stand with stainless steel cables and tamper-proof fasteners. Hanging the bike from the hanger arms allows the pedals and wheels to spin freely while making adjustments.

Here's where you can find one:

TART - across from Darrow Park
Vasa Pathway - near the Bartlett warming hut
Boardman Lake Loop Trail - 10th Street trailhead at Oryana
Leelanau Trail - Cherry Bend trailhead, Shady Lane trailhead, Village of Suttons Bay
NMC - West Hall Innovation Center (on the sidewalk that heads over to Eastern Elementary)
Traverse City Visitors Bureau aka TC Tourism
Traverse Area District Library (TADL)
Timber Ridge RV & Recreation Resort
