Greetings TARTans,
On Monday night we celebrated an incredible group of passionate people who gave their time, talent, sweat (and sweets) to make the trails a better place to be over the past year. I'm referring to an incredible group of humans that we are proud to have as volunteers. Over 400 folks gave more than 7,300 hours to the trails last year. You might have seen them on the trails trimming trees, picking up trash, marking the way or lending a helping hand or friendly smile. You enjoyed their handiwork if you skied out on the trails (Leelanau and Muncie are both groomed by volunteers and the Vasa groomers are busy all year giving back to the trails!) or enjoyed the beautiful island gardens that adorn the trail intersections. Maybe they welcomed you to a Smart Commute breakfast, helped you keep rolling at Tour de TART, or gave you a t-shirt as you got ready to run the Bayshore Marathon. Volunteers are the heart and soul of TART Trails. We are grateful every day for the incredible dedication of these outstanding individuals. They truly represent the best of who we can be and demonstrate all we can accomplish when we come together to get stuff done.

Big Step Forward for the Three Mile Trail Extension
TART Trails and project partners are thrilled to share that design and engineering is officially underway with OHM Advisors for the Three Mile Trail extension. The firm stood out among several other applicants based on the experience of the project team with similar trail facilities and funding sources. We’re excited to roll up our sleeves and get to work starting this fall. Stay tuned for more momentum on this project over the coming months. In the meantime brush up on the project in this Ticker article
Acme Connector Trail Nears Completion
The 1.8 mile Acme Connector Trail and southern leg of the Nakwema Trailway connecting the TART to Acme Township and beyond, is slated for completion later this fall. Team Elmer's has installed the Acme Creek bridge and boardwalk and are wrapping up laying the pavement. We're thrilled to celebrate this project with our partners and the community as it creates meaningful connections between neighborhoods and businesses as well as the first step in connecting two major trail networks between Traverse City and Charlevoix. Stay tuned for the official opening announcement as well as a ribbon cutting ceremony coming soon!
Welcome Sarah
Please join us in welcoming the newest recruit to the TART Trails team. Sarah Loiacano is our new Administrative Assistant helping to provide office oversight. You'll likely see her smiling face greeting you if you swing by the office or hear her helpful voice if you give us a call. We're so excited to have Sarah join our trail-loving crew and community and hope that you'll help us welcome her when you get the opportunity to meet her.
Speak Up | Show Up
The City of Traverse City invites you to help inform the future Traverse City Community Master and Mobility Plans in a single survey. They have a goal of hearing from at least 2,000 people through an online survey to inform both the community master plan and mobility action plan projects. All people who live, work, learn, play, drive, walk, ride, roll, or cycle in Traverse City - of every gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, income, and ability - are encouraged to take the survey here

Since becoming a TART Trails Ambassador earlier this year, Maureen Botteron has already logged an impressive number of volunteer hours across the entirety of the trail network. Most recently she stepped up to be the sole Ambassador caring for the newly built, natural surface Traverse Ridge Trail. If you see her be sure to give her a high five, or better yet a well deserved cool beverage. Thanks Maureen!

Thank you to Traverse City Horse Shows for selecting TART Trails as the recipient of all proceeds from general admission tickets to the horse shows this past Sunday. We are grateful for this gift in support of connected communities!

We had so much fun celebrating our incredible volunteer community at the Volunteer Appreciation Party earlier this week. Many thanks to our generous hosts at Jolly Pumpkin and our program sponsors at West Shore Bank. We're so very grateful that so many of you could join us for a lovely evening of drinking, eating, catching up, and paying gratitude. For all that our volunteers do for the trail network and our community, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you!

Wow! A huge thank you to the Traverse City Track Club for awarding TART Trails a grant for the TART Bayfront Improvement and Expansion project. Over the years, the Track Club has been able to award over $2 million in grants to projects that promote health, fitness, family recreation, and competition. Thank you for all you do to make our community happier and healthier!
