I am horrified and heartbroken by the tragic shooting that took place in Boulder on Monday. My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the 10 victims of this terrible event and I will do everything in my power to support them during this time of mourning. The Boulder community has been incredibly inspirational in coming together to offer support and condolences to those affected by the shooting which fills me with gratitude to live in such a caring community. Now more than ever it is important as elected officials to take this event and do everything we can to prevent gun violence and address mental health in a meaningful way. As I said before the my fellow house members on Tuesday, “I hope that this body can honor the victims not only with our silence, our thoughts, and our prayers, but with our action. Unlike other Coloradans who mourn with us today, we have the power and the means to change the status quo”.
