Thank you so much to everyone who supported our sustainer drive!

It feels so amazing to watch our community of supporters grow; we are so grateful to all of you who believe in this work and support us with time, money, and otherwise. We received over $2,400 dollars in one-time donations, which is the most we've ever received from a sustainer drive -- not to mention those of you who signed up for recurring donations. The archive was buzzing this weekend, and we couldn't do any of this without you!

If you'd still like to give, it's never too late. Visit our website to find out how you can support us today.

Below, check out a weekend in the life of our busy archive: poet Ida Börjel reading from The Sabatoge Manuals on Friday evening; our Finally Got the News reading group on Saturday afternoon; a class of undergraduates at the archive on Sunday afternoon; and our most recent Radical Playdate!

Upcoming Events at the Archive:

Printing Protest Symbols: a hands-on workshop!
Saturday, April 8, 2-4pm

In the streets or in our archive, we see so many symbols in the world around us. How do social movements use symbols to convey their message? How can a symbol make a sign more effective, and how can it illustrate all the ideas and feelings contained in one movement for change?

This hands-on workshop is for all ages! We’ll spend a bit of time talking about the symbols we see on the exhibition walls right now at Interference Archive as part of Finally Got the News: The Print Legacy of the U.S. Radical Left, 1970-1979, as well as the symbols we see on signs at protests and marches.

After that, we’ll carve our own symbols into foam printing boards and make our own mini-zines by sharing the symbols we’ve carved and printing them together.

This event is free! Donations are welcome to pay for supplies. Visit our website for more info.

Soapboxes, Amplifiers, and Making Headlines
Friday, April 14, 7pm

Join us for this evening of reflection on our current exhibition, Finally Got The News: The Printed Legacy of the U.S. Radical Left, 1970-1979. An ensemble of performers echo the impulses of the 1970’s Radical Left Movement. Theatre and music will collage the diverse social movements defining a vibrant decade. Visit our website for more info.

The Puerto Rican Movement: Political Activism within the Diaspora
Saturday, April 22nd, 6:30-8:30pm

The history of modern social movements in the United States largely overlooks the story of Puerto Rican activists and their organizations. Responding to this gap, a group of activists of the Movimiento Pro Independencia (MPI)/Puerto Rican Socialist Party (PSP) in the U.S. have embarked on a series of projects that chronicle political activism within the Puerto Rican Diaspora from the 1960s through the 1980s.

Carmen Vivian Rivera and José E. Velázquez will lead a discussion on their experience as leaders of the MPI-PSP in the United States and its relevance to current social justice and political resistance movements. Visit our website for more info.

Finally Got the News: The Printed Legacy of the U.S. Radical Left, 1970-1979
Exhibition Dates: January 26th through May 14, 2017
Curator's Tour: March 18, 1pm

Finally Got the News (a collaboration between Brad Duncan and Interference) uncovers the hidden legacy of the radical left of the 1970s, a decade when vibrant social movements challenged racism, imperialism, patriarchy and capitalism itself. It uses original printed materials—from pamphlets to posters, flyers to record albums—to tell this politically rich and little-known story. This exhibition also includes a publication, available for pre-order.

Interference Archive exists because people like you believe in what we do. The backbone of this community are sustainers who make a regular contribution to the archive, generally of $10 to $50 each month.

Visit our website to learn how you can become a monthly sustainer of Interference Archive!
