Collaborative Practices and Collective Struggles // Prácticas Colaborativas y Luchas Colectivas

Saturday, May 14 , 3pm
Sabado, Mayo 14, 3pm

Talk is Cheap + MPP + IA

In this community conversation, we will discuss different models of collaboration by describing our approaches to collaborative art production, sharing the ways that collaboration shapes our practices. The conversation will be guided by questions like “In systems that reward individual excellence, how can we create spaces and opportunities to support collaborative work?” and, “How do these collaborative practices connect with our collective struggles for a more just society?”

This event will also include a screening of TIC’s collaboratively-produced short film, Sí, Se Ha Vivido Bien (Yes, We Have Lived Well).

Volunteering at Interference Archive: why we do what we do!

Volunteers at Interference Archive do absolutely everything, from painting the walls between exhibitions to sorting book donations and answering questions from visiting researchers.

For those of you who don’t get to visit Interference Archive regularly, we thought we would start a series of short posts about what we do as volunteers. To kick this off, I thought I’d share a few thoughts on why I volunteer at Interference Archive, and what kinds of things I like working on.

Hi! I’m Jen Hoyer. I’ve been volunteering at Interference Archive since the fall of 2013, when I showed up and offered to help however I was needed. I was interested in Interference Archive because I’m a librarian and I like thinking critically about how alternative narratives of society are kept in libraries and archives, how information is a human right and gives people power, and how we can make information more accessible in different (and maybe non-traditional) ways.

At Interference I get to think through these ideas while working on a lot of different projects. I love working with the cataloging group — we have regular cataloging parties, as well as an administrative group that deals with database management and talks about things like subject taxonomies. I’ve also helped curate two exhibitions, I enjoy staffing regularly, and I put my creative writing skills to use on grant applications to fund some of our programming.

If you’re interested in volunteering at Interference Archive, check out our website for info fon how to get involved, or email info@interferencearchive.org. You can also support the amazing work of all our volunteers by making a financial donation.

Audio Interference 13: Mobile Print Power

“Before we ask questions, we find out more about the problems that are happening. And sometimes we even go out and ask the people around us: what is something that you don’t feel comfortable with? Where do you feel disconnected? . . . I think that’s the way that we actually find political issues to do art with.” –Stephanie Roman

Those that couldn't come to the opening on Sunday (and those that want more!) can listen to Mobile Print Power talk about their work on Audio Interference's 13th podcast. In this episode, Charlie Morgan and Lani Hanna talk to collective members Marissa Campiz, Brandon Castillo, Jennifer Muñoz, Stephanie Roman, and Patrick Rowe, getting great insight into their process and unique practice which mixes political graphic production and community engagement.

We've been receiving amazing donations of culture from powerful movements

To the left are just 4 of the over 100 issues of the British Peace News that were recently donated to Interference Archive by the War Resisters League. This fabulous publication not only has some of the most handsome covers of any long-running left publication, but it is a treasure trove for activists and researchers interested in anti-militarism, anti-nuclear activism, and an extremely broad range of other peace-related movements.

Interference Archive has a desk for rent!

In order to help afford our space, we rent out a small number of desks to like-minded individuals and organizations, and we currently have one available. Your desk would be located in a shared work space, and costs $360/month, including all utilities. You would have 24 hour access, and get to work close to a really nice crew of people. If you're interested, contact info@interferencearchive.org.
Support our work!
Interference Archive exists because people like you believe in what we do and support us with a financial donation. Visit our website to learn how your donation can make a difference.
