HNBA INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW INSTITUTE (IPLI)* PATENT BAR* & BAR PREP COURSE SCHOLARSHIPS
DEADLINE TO APPLY: November 16, 2018, by 5:00 PM EDT
The IPLI is a week-long immersion program that works to remedy the underrepresentation of Latinx lawyers in IP law. While Hispanics constitute 18% of the U.S. population, they represent only 5% of U.S. attorneys. And at about 2% of the IP attorney population, Hispanic IP attorneys are severely underrepresented. Launched in 2013, with the support of its corporate sponsor Microsoft, the IPLI was tasked with addressing the underrepresentation of Hispanic lawyers in IP law. Since that time, 150 law students (“IPLI Scholars”) have completed the program. We are proud to report that approximately 75% of our IPLI Scholars admitted to the Bar are now IP-related legal professionals! This is an indication of the program’s direct impact on the diversity of this critical practice area. However, we are cognizant that many of our scholars need financial assistance to prepare them to succeed in this profession.
The HNBA is proud to announce the first IPLI Patent Bar and IPLI Bar Prep Course Scholarships! A total of six (6) scholarships will be awarded: three IPLI scholars will receive financial assistance to complete the Patent Bar preparatory course and related Patent Bar Exam fees, and three scholars will receive assistance to pay for the state Bar preparatory course.
Applicants must meet certain criteria to be considered:
Note: IPLI Scholars can only apply for one scholarship.
