Season's greetings to my HNBA familia. Wishing you all the hope, wonder and joy that the season can bring. May you have a wonderful time with your family and friends. Do not forget to spend some quality time getting some R&R so you are energized for 2019. We have some amazing events planned that you do not want to miss including our Corporate Counsel Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on March 20-23, and our Annual Convention in New York, New York, on September 26-29. I look forward to seeing you.
Lastly, to the HNBA board of governors and the National Office, I am beyond grateful for your love and support. I know we are making a positive difference in the lives we touch. Thank you for all you do for our community.

Phoenix, AZ – HNBA Board of Governors Meeting
The HNBA held its most recent board meeting on December 7-8, 2018, in Phoenix, AZ. Thank you to our gracious hosts, Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP! This year, the board meeting kicked off with a community service event at two middle schools where HNBA members taught a 4th Amendment class to 8th graders and answered questions about the legal field. Then, the Board attended a training with Kent Stroman, an independent consultant specializing in fundraising and strategic planning.

The next day, the Board attended a productive meeting including Corporate Counsel Conference planning, member reports, community service planning, and personal career development discussions.

Also, thank you to our local affiliate in Phoenix, Los Abogados, who gave a very warm welcome to the HNBA with a Holiday Welcome Party!

New York, NY – HNBA Region II Community Service Event

On December 15, 2018, HNBA Region II spent the day with special needs kids in the Bronx for a day of play and fun with the KEEN organization, Kids Enjoy Exercise Now.
Orange County, CA – HNBA/Prudential Su Dinero Program
On December 12, 2018, HNBA/Prudential Su Dinero Program came to Orange County, California, where Prudential Financial Advisor, Maureen Umaña Boone, led the group through key concepts such as budgeting, debt management, protection of assets, preparing for retirement and creating a financial legacy for your loved ones, and taking control of your taxes. Thank you to HNBA Strategic Partner, Prudential, for teaching these important topics to the Latinx community! Thank you to Troutman Sanders for generously hosting this Su Dinero Program in their offices!
Edgewater, NJ- HNBA Region III Holiday Toy Drive & Mixer

On December 5, 2018, HNBA Region III held their 10th Annual Holiday Toy Drive & Mixer at Pier 115 in Edgewater, NJ. This event was geared towards collecting toys, food and money for underprivileged families during the holiday season and was very well attended by members of the New York/New Jersey bench and bar. Kansas City, MO- HNBA Region XI Youth Symposium
On November 15, 2018, the Hispanic Bar Association of Greater Kansas City (HBAGKC) hosted the HNBA Youth Symposium at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law (UMKC School of Law.) Approximately forty high school and undergraduate students from across the metro attended the event, which included a mock law school class, speed mentoring with HBAGKC members and informational sessions about applying for law school. Over fifteen HBAGKC volunteers, attorneys, judges and law students made the event a success. Thank you to UMKC School of Law for hosting and sponsoring the event for the second year in a row!
Boston, MA – Leveraging Latindad in Big Law
An amazing and successful Leveraging Latinidad in Big Law event took place on November 8, 2018, at Locke Lord. Over one hundred Latinx lawyers and law students attended, meeting representatives from twelve different big law firms. Law Students from eight different Latin American Law Students Associations (LALSAs) were in attendance coming from four different states including: Boston University LALSA, Vermont Law School, University of Connecticut School of Law, Roger Williams University School of Law, Suffolk University Law School, New England Law | Boston, Northeastern University School of Law, and Boston College Law School.

Columbus, OH - HNBA Region X Law Student Mixer
On November 8, 2018, HNBA Region X partnered with Abercrombie & Fitch Co. and Vorys to host the first of a series of mixers connecting law students with local practitioners. HNBA Region X hosts quarterly mixers in collaboration with local law firms and corporations, where students interact with local attorneys from all walks of the profession.
New York, NY - HNBA Regions II & III Joint Regional President Inaugural Fundraiser
On November 8, 2018, HNBA Region II President, Frank Francis, and Region III President, Joseph Linares, held a professional development and networking mixer at the Australian in New York, NY, introducing their Regions to their new Presidents. Sponsors included Ameriprise Financial Services, Legalese Wellness, Alabaster & Chess Custom Suiting, and Severance, Burko, Spalter, Masone & Laurette.
All proceeds from the ticket sales for the event were directed to the HNBA Vision in Action Fund, and $1,500 was raised! Attendees also participated in the Gift of Life Marrow Registry where Latinx people are only 40% likely to find matches; the second lowest match rate.

The Amazon Spheres is an incredible location and will serve as the backdrop for our evening. The Spheres contain 400 different species of cloud forest plants from all over the world, from tiny epiphytes that cling to a 50-foot living wall to Rubi, a nearly 49 year old (and nearly 49 foot tall) old ficus tree.
