PRESS RELEASE
HNBA STATEMENT ON U.S. SUPREME COURT MARRIAGE EQUALITY ORAL ARGUMENTS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 29, 2015

Washington D.C. The United States Supreme Court just heard oral arguments in the marriage equality case of Obergefell v. Hodges. Cynthia D. Mares, Hispanic National Bar Association National President, said:

“This is an historic moment in the struggle for civil rights.  We applaud the courageous plaintiffs who brought the fight for marriage equality and equal dignity to our nation’s highest court. Our Constitution guarantees equal rights to every American. Our government cannot treat its citizens differently simply because of who they are, or who they love. Throughout this struggle, the HNBA has stood firmly in support of marriage equality. We look forward to the day that the Supreme Court ensures for all the freedom to marry.”
