E-communication from the Hispanic National Bar Association
“An informed public is a strong Nation”

September 2, 2015

Boston, MA -- Today, the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) announced its national rollout of a new community outreach program designed to raise community awareness about the U.S. system of justice, our legal rights and our civic obligations. The program, called La Voz en el Derecho (“The Voice in the Law,” or “La Voz”) is a Podcast program featuring prominent lawyers, judges, law professors, government officials, and celebrities discussing the fundamentals of U.S. law and how it affects our lives.
Recent studies show that the U.S. public in general lacks a familiarity or basic understanding about U.S. law and how it functions. “Familiarity breeds confidence and trust,” says Cynthia Mares, National HNBA President. “We propose to interact with the Latino community, in particular our immigrant populations, with vibrant messages on U.S. law with the view that a public that is well informed about the legal foundation of our country builds toward a stronger and more secure America,” explains Mares.
La Voz Podcasts will feature a new program on a different topic on a biweekly basis, with select programs also broadcast in Spanish.  While the podcasts will benefit people of all ages, the programs will primarily be directed towards a younger audience. La Voz will be available through the HNBA website, on its home page at
www.hnba.com. The home page for the program will also provide resources for obtaining additional information on the topics covered by the Podcast programs. “We are extremely excited about La Voz en el Derecho. We have put together a team of top notch lawyers to write, direct, and produce the programs and we hope to partner with other organizations to improve the content and expand the reach of La Voz,” concluded Mares.

About the Hispanic National Bar Association
The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) is an incorporated, not-for-profit, national membership association that represents the interests of Hispanic attorneys, judges, law professors, legal assistants, law students, and legal professionals in the United States and its territories. Since 1972, the HNBA has acted as a force for positive change within the legal profession by creating opportunities for Hispanic lawyers and by helping generations of lawyers to succeed.  The HNBA has also effectively advocated on issues of importance to the national Hispanic community.  While we are proud of our accomplishments, we are mindful that our mission is as vital today as it was four decades ago, especially as the U.S. Hispanic population continues to grow.

We here at the HNBA would like to take this space to thank all of our sponsors big and small for their contribution to our cause, as none of the things we strive to accomplish would be possible without your contributed support.
