The e-Newsletter from the Hispanic National Bar Association

December 01, 2016 Edition
On November 18, 2016, the HNBA Region II and the HNBA Latina Commission, among other sponsors, held an opening reception for the Luminarias de la Ley Exhibit at Brooklyn Law School, NY. The opening reception was widely attended by prominent law professionals in NY.

Luminarias de la Ley is an original research project by visiting Scholar Dolores S. Atencio, former HNBA President in 1992. The exhibit was showcased at the HNBA National Convention this past September in Chicago.

On Tuesday, November 29, the MetLife Mentorship event was put on by the local chapter of MALSA at the UNM Law School, the HNBA, the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association, and the NM State Bar Young Lawyers Division.  There were more than 70 people that attended.  The students, and their mentees had an opportunity to further develop the relationships that were made earlier this year by the NMHBA’s mentorship program.

On November 29, 2016, Region V, with MetLife, held a kickoff dinner for a new mentorship initiative that will pair ten law student mentees with ten practicing attorney mentors.

The theme for the 2017 CCC is Gateway To Your Global Network and the Spring Edition of Noticias will highlight the international practice and aspects of the practice of law. Cross-border law practice is growing to serve the increasingly global business of its client.  Expansion takes several forms, including the physical – law firms opening offices in other countries to serve new and existing clients as well as the virtual expansion that supports the economics of cross boarder activity by enabling the practice of law apart from a physical presence.  Issues we face include barriers to practicing abroad, ethical considerations, and many others. We hope that the articles submitted for consideration will help our members identify and strengthen global network.
