On October 21, 2017, the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association and the HNBA Latina Commission sponsored the 2nd Annual Latina Leadership Program at the University of North Texas Dallas College of Law. The program focused on empowering and educating Latina lawyers and law students on understanding the value of mentorship and networking. The program consisted of panel discussions with Latina judges and attorneys from various practice areas sharing their story on how mentorship and networking were key to their success. In addition, the panelists shared insights on work life balance and what it means to be a Latina attorney in today's world. Jessica Massey, HNBA Secretary and Senior Associate Counsel at Walmart, was the keynote speaker and inspired the audience as she outlined her journey to success and to her current position at Walmart through her participation in HNBA. The program ended with a fireside chat with former ICE Director Sara Saldana, Liz Cedillo-Pereira, and UNT Dean Royal Ferguson focusing on how the challenges they encountered along their career path were the primary reasons for their success. Program sponsors also included Gardere Wynne Sewell, Hunton & Williams, Jones Day, SMU Dedman School of Law, Texas A&M School of Law, and UNT Dallas College of Law.
