All ABA members are eligible to self-nominate to be considered for vacancies on ABA Standing and Special Committees, Commissions, Working Groups, Task Forces, and other ABA entities. The ABA Diversity and Inclusion Center provides the ABA’s Appointments Committee with a list of diverse ABA members who have applied for an appointment that it recommends be given serious consideration, as well as a list of individuals who have not applied but would be interested in an appointment should one become available. The ABA is eager to add the names of HNBA members to these lists!

Congratulations to the 2018 HNBA Top Lawyers
After a rigorous review process, the Awards Committee selected 33 highly qualified winners from across the country. The “Top Lawyers Under 40” Award honors accomplished lawyers who have demonstrated professional excellence, integrity, leadership, commitment to the Hispanic community, and dedication to improving the legal profession.

“We are incredibly proud to honor 33 of our best Latino and Latina lawyers and community leaders from across the nation,” said Erica V. Mason, HNBA National President and Partner at Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, LLP. “Once again this year, the HNBA received the largest number of nominations in history, surpassing even last year’s record. The number of both nominees and honorees exemplifies the depth and strength of our community in the areas of law and leadership."
The awards will be presented during the 2018 HNBA Corporate Counsel Conference in San Francisco, CA, on Friday, March 16, 2018.

Congratulations! Cecilia Sanabria Makes Partner at Finnegan!
HNBA "Top Lawyers Under 40" award recipient, Cecilia Sanabria, was recently made partner at Finnegan in Washington, D.C. Cecilia focuses her practice on patent litigation and client counseling in the mechanical, industrial, and electrical fields. She represents clients before U.S. district courts and the ITC. Cecilia’s litigation experience spans the pre-trial, discovery, trial, and post-trial phases of litigation, and includes arguing motions in open court and examining witnesses in jury trials and ITC investigations. She manages fact discovery, drafts motions and legal briefs, and works with fact and expert witnesses. Cecilia also has experience in various aspects of patent prosecution and USPTO proceedings, including IPRs. Cecilia received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (2005), cum laude, from the University of Florida; and a J.D. (2009), cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center.
Congratulations Anna Gomez!
Anna Gomez, a partner in Wiley Rein LLP’s Telecommunications, Media and Technology Practice Group, has been appointed to the Broadband Empowerment and Inclusion Working Group (Working Group) of the FCC’s Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment to represent HNBA’s interests before the Working Group. The Committee will provide advice and recommendations to the FCC regarding how to empower disadvantaged communities and accelerate the entry of small businesses, including those owned by women and minorities into the media, digital news and information, and audio and video programming industries. The Working Group, in particular, will provide recommendations for ways to ensure disadvantaged communities are not denied a wide range of access to opportunities awarded by next-generation networks. Ms. Gomez has broad experience in telecommunications. She spent more than 16 years at both the FCC and the National Telecommunications and information Administration, and served in-house at Sprint. Ms. Gomez also has demonstrated leadership on diversity and inclusion issues, having served as Wiley Rein’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee Chair, created the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at NTIA, and on the Hispanic Employment Task Force.
