From Rev. Felicity

Sometimes my life seems to be a Ferris wheel -- up and down, down and up, around and around -- filled with terror and delight, swooping down from expansive visions of the glories of the world to the depths where only darkness reigns.  But usually such circuitous journeys take months or years.  In Jesus’ life, it took less than a week.  He went from entering Jerusalem with great celebration on Palm Sunday to betrayal on Thursday, a mock trial and crucifixion on Friday, and then resurrection on Easter Sunday.  As we honor the highs and lows and highs of our Savior’s life, we also reflect on the highs and lows of our own.

Is there not great comfort in realizing that the worst that has happened in our own lives is exceeded by the life of Jesus?  And that, just as he found new life after great tragedy, so can we.  As he found the joys that come with living a courageous life, despite the challenges, Holy Week reminds us that we can do.

So we look forward to seeing you on Maundy Thursday at 6:30, Good Friday from 12-2, and -- of course! -- Easter Sunday at 10:00.  (And by the way, although we don’t have Sunday school for children on Easter, we have a back-up plan to keep the young ones happy if they don’t want to stay in worship and enjoy the wonderful music.)

And please remember our two upcoming events for children and youth:
  • Easter Monday (4/28) at 1:00 -- come to my cottage for an Easter egg decorating party and hunt. Please RSVP so that we can enough supplies and food for everyone.
  • Saturday 4/9, youth aged 9 and over are invited to join us at the Hands On Glass Studio in Corning to learn about glass making and make homemade treasures.
  • RSVP’s are needed for both!

But before then, we have a big Sunday coming up!  Join us on Resurrection Day to feel the power of radical possibility.

From the Ad Hoc Committee

Don’t forget that Easter Sunday is the deadline for turning in (or mailing in) your Congregational Questionnaires.  Thanks!
Congratulations to the Notre Dame Concert Choir and their Director Sarah Dennis. The students spent four days in Washington DC and they performed on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and earned a Gold Medal at their competition. Finally, these students scores' earned them an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall next year.

Through the month of March, Missions is supporting a drive to collect LAUNDRY DETERGENT for the Shop @ Second Place East.  The Shop provides necessary home goods for homeless residents of Chemung County.  Please help us fill the blue bin in Beecher Hall to the brim for those in need.
