Marketing That Isn't Afraid to Stand Out: Lakenetwork Emarketing Minute

The Annual Lakenetwork Shop Local
& Have Fun Guide

Dear Maria,

It can be overwhelming to decide what to give for the holidays. So, here's our annual Ohio shopping and entertainment guide (we are located in Ohio). These websites include not only clients of ours, but our friends and colleagues as well.

Fortunately SHOPPING LOCALLY has entered many people's consciousnesses. Local businesses are the lifeblood of our economy. So, this Cyber Monday, consider your local biz! We have some ideas for Giving Tuesday as well.

Village Blacksmith

Village Blacksmith - Gates, railings, and balconies, custom furniture, hardware, fireplace screens, lamps and a wide variety of miscellaneous and restorative works compose Ken Roby's impressive portfolio. Ken’s interest is the art of the blacksmith, so most pieces continue to be made by hand and are signed and dated.

David B. SimmererDavid B. Simmerer - Fine art and nature paintings. Simmerer graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts, and has been painting, drawing and illustrating ever since. He has designed graphics for clients such as Keybank and the Cleveland Metroparks, the latter for the last 15 years. As a fine artist he has produced and sold hundreds of paintings of wildlife, landscapes and portraits.

The Artist BreeThe Artist Bree - "Bree is inspired by women of myth and lore, barbaric, anarchistic and prehistoric cultures, nature-birds in particular, religious iconography, the human figure, landscapes and anything that causes her to pause. If it were not for the spiritual, she would not be so grabbed. To her, there is no discrepancy between art and spirit. If one thrives, the other surely will." Beautiful prints and poetry.

RGI Outdoors - Keep cozy warm with balaclavas and more.

Krazee Boots - Wild wraps for boots.

Collectable Glass InsulatorsCollectibles

Poletop Discoveries - Remember those old glass insulators? It's too late to bid on items for this Christmas, but keep these guys in mind for gifts throughout the year. The next auction is sometime this winter. Bid on an item and get a piece of history. (We look forward to working on this website soon!)

Verve Daddy BandHave a rockin' good time with the Americana band Verve Daddy December 10 at The Peppermill in Akron. It's free! CDs, shirts and hats for sail. The band is celebrating the release of its new album, Dangerous Days.

Floral ElixirsFloral Elixirs - These cocktail and mocktail drink mixers are made with real flowers! Bottles are individually handcrafted in small batches to ensure exceptional quality.

Geauga Family Farms - Nearer the end of the year, look for early bird signups for next year's farm share. Give the gift of healthy eats. Organic-only shares available!

The Outspoken Team - Inspiring material for the teacher in your life by authors, performers, and keynote speakers Michael Salinger and Sara Holbrook. This dynamic duo travels the globe teaching students - and their teachers!

Holbrook is a famous children's author whose books have a soulful, kind mission - to help children learn how to deal with difficult topics. Take a gander at Nothing's the End of the World or Weird? Me Too! Let's Be Friends.

Books by Sara Holbrook

Dirty DogsDirty Dogs by Boss Morgan - "Dirty Dogs is Bad News Bears on steroids and will do for college sports teams what Animal House did for college fraternities." The same DNA code flows through every cell of college wrestling coach Dan Sangha's body—WIN! He breathes, eats, drinks and sleeps winning. However, his knack for offending people lands him a job in the underbelly of the college ranks. After suffering through years of mediocrity, he figures out how to build a championship team—recruit the undesirables—a talented assortment of malcontents shunned by other coaches.

Garden-pedia by Maria Zampini and Pamela Bennet - Written to fill the need for a clear, concise book of useful terms for the layman gardener in a friendly, conversational style. Now available in several e-book formats!

Designing Gardens with Flora of the American East (Paperback)Designing Gardens with Flora of the American East by Carolyn Summers - The beautifully illustrated "Designing Gardens with Flora of the American East" approaches landscape design from an ecological perspective, encouraging professional horticulturists and backyard enthusiasts alike to intensify their use of indigenous or native plants.

The Entrepreneurs: Success & Sacrifice by Kip Marlow - Stories of local entrepreneurs, their travails and how they made it.

22 Years - A poetic feast with a dash of wry from renowned underground poet Wendy Shaffer.

Cleveland Goes ModernFor architectural enthusiasts, try Nina Freedlander Gibans' books, Cleveland Goes Modern: Design for the Home, 1930-1970 and Creative Essence: Cleveland's Sense Of Place (Cleveland Artists Foundations Dialogue).

Local Bookstores - for a long time, Mac's Backs in Coventry has been friend to local authors and poets. Help support Cleveland's literary heritage by stopping in to a local, independently-owned bookstore! On that note, we are sad to announce that Scriptoria Books is closing. Help Michael clear out his inventory up to the end of the year. Used hardbacks $3, large paperbacks $2 and small paperbacks $1. Scriptoria makes its home at Zion Church of Tremont U.C.C., 2716 West 14th Street. Michael keeps hours Wednesday through Saturday, 11 - 3. Come meet his cat, Mamasan.

And finally, slow down and cuddle up with a good book from a local library. Mentor Public Library | Willoughby-Eastlake Library
