To introduce the movie to you, and give you some background information about it, a guest speaker will give a short lecture about the main theme of the film. The guest speaker for this time will be Clara Rekers, Dutch teacher at Sint Ignatius Gymnasium!

The Dutch general elections
Today is a big day in the Netherlands! It's Election Day! The political parties have been campaigning for weeks, and yesterday the party leaders participated in the final election debate. Today the Dutch finally go to the polls to elect the 150 new members for the parliament and a new government. A total of 28 parties are vying for a chance to form the next Dutch government, and it isn't clear at all yet which party will become the biggest! In a few hours we'll know... If you want to know more about the Dutch elections, check this page out! It gives a clear overview of everything you need to know.

Language Exchange Program

Only 5 more days to sign up!!

Want to learn a new language or improve one that you already know? Would you like to engage in an informal exchange of languages? Then the Language Exchange Program is something for you!

The Language Exchange Program is meant for students who may have picked up a language while travelling; for people who think that a given language sounds interesting; for someone who learned it in school, but has then forgotten most of it; or people who basically enjoy speaking a specific language and interacting with people face to face.

Based on your language preference and your own language skills, ISN will pair you up one and one, granted that the coordinators can find a match for your language preference. ISN will host an information meeting, where you can get tips and tricks for starting your exchange of languages.

You can apply for the Student Language Exchange Program till the 20th of Match.
After that, you will hear who your language partner is around the 22nd of March by mail.
Friday the 24th of March at 5 pm we will organize an event where you can meet each other!

The Dutch ABC

Every week we'll teach you something about Dutch culture, using the ancient ABC!  Last time we did the first 5 letters; This week we'll do the second part from F till J!

FEBO. Got a sudden craving for a crispy snack? Find a FEBO and make sure yu have some coins on you. The FEBO is a fast food chain where you can buy your snacks from a wall-mounted vending machine only. Everybody has seen these at least once, and every exchange student should try this unique experience!

Gezellig! The Dutch word 'gezellig' can't be translated to English and is used in various ways. It means something like cosy, friendly or nice, but can also refer to time spent with loved ones or being very sociable. Drinking coffee with a friend can be gezellig, a room can be decorated gezellig or a person can be really nice and gezellig!

Hagelslag. We Dutchies eat a lot of bread; for breakfast, for lunch and sometimes even for dinner. 'Hagelslag' are the typical Dutch chocolate sprinkles we like to eat on our 'boterhammen' with a thick layer of butter.

Iceskating is popular activity in the Dutch winters. Once the ice is strong enough, everybody will get their skates out and take to the ice. If the weather isn't cold enough, artificial skating rinks will be created where you can also get a nice cup of hot chocolate milk or pea soup afterwards. Gezellig!

Jenever. This Dutch gin is a strong liquor made in the Netherlands and Belgium. There are two types of jenever: Oude Jenever (the old one) and Jonge Jenever (the young one). The difference is not in age as you might think, but in the distilling techniques!
