The coming months continue to offer multiple directions for the Association for Visual Pedagogies. We look towards the past in offering the post-conference video and keynotes to revisit. The deadline for the Video Journal of Educational Pedagogies's (VJEP) special issue has been extended, and a new special is in the works for the new year, alongside the latest VJEP Advanced Articles.

An upcoming event on offer is a postgraduate Zoom presentation, enabling our community too (re)connect during pandemic times. We welcome Fabien Schultz and Joff Bradley to the VJEP's editorial team. 
 
We have decided not to offer a one-off annual AVP conference in the year ahead due to the uncertainties of COVID and a growing sense of online fatigue amongst our membership. Instead, we are planning a set of dynamic mini-series throughout the year - on topics ranging from visual provocations for pedagogy to more-than-human sightings to 'how to' workshops to VR spaces for inquiry. Watch this space for more details on these soon!

Welcome Joff Bradley to VJEP's Editorial Team
Joff is a Professor of English and Philosophy in the Faculty and Graduate School of Foreign Languages at Teikyo University, Tokyo, Japan. He is visiting professor at Jamia Millia Islamia (University), New Delhi, India, and a visiting fellow at Kyung Hee University, Seoul, South Korea.
Welcome Fabien Schultz to VJEP's Editorial Team
Fabien is an ethnopharmacologist at Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany and a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Emory University in Atlanta, USA. His interdisciplinary research focuses on the documentation of traditional medicinal plant and insect use in Uganda, Burkina Faso, Morocco and Germany, as well as pharmacological studies and early-stage drug discovery. As a member of The Explorers Club, his recent projects also include working with wildlife, such as investigating self-medication behavior in wild chimpanzees and mountain gorillas.

Digital stories are short, 2-5 minute personal multimedia pieces combining video, photographs and music with an audio narration. Conceived as a means of giving everyday people the ability to tell their stories using digital tools, digital storytelling has since found fertile ground in schools and universities around the world. This presentation will introduce the concept of digital storytelling and look at ways in which digital stories have been used for research.
The Impact of Student Generated Mobile Filmmaking on Science Class Engagement

Storytelling is a powerful practice that has adapted to fill the spaces humans have occupied over millennia from campfires and caves to printing presses and lecture theatres. Mobile devices now allow learners to access and create stories constantly in this digital space, and communicate through multiple literacies simultaneously.  In this talk Kaitlyn will discuss her work with student generated mobile filmmaking, where students are encouraged to become active communicators rather than passive consumers of scientific information.
