Horizon Europe, a new boost for the European research and innovation

This year marks the start of EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation, Horizon Europe, coming into force with a budget of €95.5 billion over the next 7 years. The European programme is looking to facilitate collaboration and strengthen the impact of research and innovation in developing, supporting and implementing EU policies while tackling global challenges. From 2021 to 2027, Horizon Europe also aims to support creating and better dispersing of excellent knowledge and technologies.

In the meantime, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has declared the 2020s as the decade of digital technology, asserting that the Union's digital sovereignty must be the primary objective. At the heart of this strategy is a clear ambition: to free ourselves from all forms of technological dependence by investing massively in sovereign infrastructures and cloud, AI and Big Data services. To do so, the European Commission will pave the way to a greener and more digital future, including Sustainable Development Goals. In this regard, Cap Digital participates in the organization of a cycle of events called "The web after the Platforms". Register now to the first webinar "What is at stake with Interoperability?" taking place on 2nd of June.

At Cap Digital, the launch of Horizon Europe also coincides with the launch of various acceleration programmes designed to strengthen the capacities of European innovators in the digital technology field. Indeed, AI4Cities, DigiCirc, DAPSI, DIY4U and EIT Health Catapult – all projects in which the cluster is involved as participant or leader – will be supporting selected consortia to develop their innovative projects.
