Due to a ban on events with more than 50 people imposed by the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) and concerns over COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Wichita Symphony Orchestra (WSO) has postponed the remainder of their 2019-2020 Season. Updates regarding COVID-19 and Wichita Symphony performances can be found on WichitaSymphony.org on their Public Updates page.
In addition to the previously announced postponement of their March 14 and 15 performances of "Ravel & Brahms," affected concerts are "The Rose of Sonora" on April 4 and 5, "Apollo 13 In Concert" on April 18, and "Kristin Chenoweth In Concert" on May 16. Ticketholders are asked to retain their tickets while concerts are rescheduled.
Following a recommendation from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Sedgwick County Health Department imposed a ban on events larger than 50 people, previously set at 250. The City of Wichita has since announced several closures, including access to Century II by the public until further notice.
While no official end date has been set by the County, the CDC made a recommendation on Sunday, March 15 that event bans of 50 or more people remain in effect for eight weeks.
Wichita Symphony CEO Don Reinhold wants to assure WSO ticketholders and patrons that every effort is being made to reschedule the performances.
"We are exploring every option for when we might reschedule. If you have purchased tickets to the affected concerts, they will be good for the new dates," says Reinhold.
The WSO will continue to monitor COVID-19 through the SCHD, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), and the CDC.
