Hello, what's up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.

Thank you for your support of the return of this events newsletter! It's been really nice to ease back into it, both to refamiliarize ourselves how we used to find good events and also to start some brand-new event-researching practices because, you know, stuff has changed in the past fourteen months.

A lot of what we're excited about these days is craft markets, outdoor concerts in interesting spaces, and backyard art shows, rather than, say, all-night warehouse parties—which feels reasonable, given the circumstances. Hopefully in months to come, a wider and wider variety of events will be safe to experience. For this week, we think you'll enjoy what we've got. It's Mother's Day Weekend (call your mom! or anyone else's mom!), so there are plenty of opportunities in here to buy stuff for moms and to do stuff with moms.

If you're not already a subscriber to this newsletter, click here. Also, please support us by forwarding this email to your friends who enjoy things like listening to music and leaving the house sometimes.

Let's do fun stuff!

—Leila + Brian

What is No Lights No Lycra?
Austin's weekly judgment-free, substance-free, high-impact dance thing in the dark. We stream every Monday at 8pm CT. It's a DJ night that's not at the club, a workout that's not at the gym, a personal meditation that's anything but silent. Read more about us in the Austin Chronicle.

No Humans Allowed 053 - On Air with Adam Jones (SURVIVE / Holodeck Records) pt 2

This week was part two of No Humans Allowed's interview with Adam Jones of Austin bands SURVIVE, Troller, Thousand Foot Whale Claw, and local label Holodeck Records. Adam discusses what it's like having your bandmates record a famous tv show theme song (SURVIVE members Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein do all the music on Stranger Things) and running a record label in the middle of a pandemic. You can hear a few songs by some of Adam's bands and artists on his label as well. Stream it from KPISS' website here.

Troller - They Body
Troller - Storm Maker
SURVIVE - High Rise

What is No Humans Allowed?
Brian Blackout's weekly robots-themed radio show on internet station Machine vibes 4 machines. Songs for robots, androids, mandroids, cyborgs, AIs, cylons, skinjobs, roombas, wifi routers, smart devices, anything colored Bondi blue, and virtual assistants. Humans not required. Broadcasts live every Wednesday at 10pm on, with over 50 episodes now streamable in the archives on topics like and Beach Simulations, Roomba dance parties, concrete jungles + Cyber Texas.
How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it's pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. This list is by no means exhaustive; it's just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.

Who are we?
We make this newsletter. We put on No Lights No Lycra each week. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at
