Hello, what's up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.

Austin is BACK, baby. We've got beloved recurring dance parties that we haven't touched since 2020, like 80s night at Barbs and Neon Rainbows at Cheer Ups. We've got some stuff closing, like the Blue Genie Art Bazaar's May Market (May is almost over, FYI) and this art exhibit at a drainage culvert. And we've got some other stuff opening, like Bobo's Snack Bar and Tiny Grocer. ("Is the tagline for Tiny Grocer 'Hold me closer, Tiny Grocer'?" you are probably wondering. Don't worry: yes, it is.) We have a pricey-but-worth-it benefit for Fusebox (whose executive director we had the pleasure of interviewing for this newsletter). We have a pet drag contest because, like we said, AUSTIN IS BACK. And we have lots, lots more. Scroll down for daily listings.

We also now have an Instagram! We won't really be using it to post upcoming events--that's what this newsletter is for--but we may post photos of stuff when we do it.

If you're not already a subscriber to this newsletter, click here. Also, please support us by forwarding this email to your friends who enjoy things like listening to music and leaving the house sometimes.

Let's do fun stuff!

No Humans Allowed 056
Italo Not Italo

This week's No Humans Allowed was all about 00s synthpop influenced by italo disco (synthy dance music from Italy in the 80s). It touches upon some of the big names from the electroclash era, the rise of music blogs, a couple of contributors to the Drive soundtrack's synthwave goodness, and a lot of less well known moments in between.

What is No Lights No Lycra?
Austin's weekly judgment-free, substance-free, high-impact dance thing in the dark. We stream every Monday at 8pm CT. It's a DJ night that's not at the club, a workout that's not at the gym, a personal meditation that's anything but silent. Read more about us in the Austin Chronicle.

How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it's pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. This list is by no means exhaustive; it's just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.

Who are we?
We make this newsletter. We put on No Lights No Lycra each week. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at liteandbriteatx.com.
SEE YOU NEXT WEEK, CHAMPIONS.
