Hello, what's up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.

Today is a a Very Special Edition of this newsletter. For one thing, it includes the findings of many dedicated hours of NYE event research. Doing listings for NYE is tricky for a couple reasons. One is that this newsletter does not, as a rule, list normal concerts, and a lot of NYE events are really just normal concerts dressed up with the words "New Years" in the subject line. Furthermore, the big deciding factor for whether or not to list an event in this newsletter is "would we go to it," which right away rules out a lot of things where they want you to pay $95 in exchange for entry and one (1) glass of champagne. (We are not faulting any venue or promoter for doing this, by the way, even though we are not the target audience. It's rough out there for events. Make your money where you can.) We've pored over calendars and found some solid-looking options for innovative parties at reasonable costs. Check them out below. No one needs to stay home (unless you want to, or unless everything gets cancelled for Covid).

Also in this issue are playlists of our favorite songs of 2021! Both of us have included links to our playlists below. Let us know whose you like better! (Not that it's a competition. But we do have a lot riding on this.)

Let's do fun stuff!

P.S. The Omicron variant is doing its thing, so we're returning to our practice of adding cacti next to events that we know are outdoors. Use this information as you see fit.

How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it's pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. (We especially recommend Showlist for live music, dance.atx for DJs, and 101+ Weird Austin Things to Do for exactly what it sounds like). This list is by no means exhaustive; it's just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.

Who are we?
We make this newsletter. We put on No Lights No Lycra each week. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at
