If you're already planning for next weekend, a box of treats from here would also make a great Valentine's Day gift.

Arts - Celebrating Black History Month
February is Black History Month and The Stage celebrates with the world premiere of "Strange Courtesies," a virtual staged reading in collaboration with African American Shakespeare Company.

Citizens of South Africa confront a painful past of Apartheid through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This piece explores the potential restorative power of truth-telling, the significance of sympathetic witnesses, and the tasks of both perpetrators and bystanders in this process.

History San Jose will honor Santa Clara's African American history throughout this month, so keep up with their social media to find out what's coming up.
Outdoor Activities - Calling All Dog Owners!
This is the chance for your furry friend to be a star! The San Jose Downtown Association and Veggielution present the SoFA Pocket Park, a place for dogs and their owners to play, relax and have fun while social distancing.
We want to invite three lucky dogs and their owners to be first to experience the SoFA Pocket Park's dog area, run around on the turf and take lots of photos at the soft opening in mid-February. You can enter to win through either Facebook or Instagram. Check out our posts and follow the instructions to enter! To be considered a "Best of Show" doggie model, you must first share a photo of your dog at their favorite Downtown San Jose spot (e.g., restaurant, mural, fire hydrant), tag us and use the hashtags: #dtsj and #sofapocketpark.

Winners will also receive a gift card to either Andy’s Pet Shop or Petco so you can spoil your canine companion. We’ll reach out to three lucky winners by Feb. 10 so keep an eye out for a message from us if you enter. We’re excited to see photos of your dogs! Good luck, everyone!
Other Essentials - Letters to Heal
We could all use community support and strength. The Hammer Theatre invites you to join staff members and volunteers in this virtual gathering to create encouraging cards and letters to share with heroes in healthcare, patients fighting the virus and isolated seniors in our community. You can drop in anytime between 2-4 pm to the zoom meeting. The goal is for these letters to help fight isolation and the struggle to recover from COVID-19.
San Jose Love Stories - SJZ Jazz Aid Fund
San Jose Love Stories highlight acts of kindness by our community for our community,

We've been highlight acts of kindness done by our restaurants for our community. This week, we want to spotlight an act of kindness from San Jose Jazz for our community's talented artists.

San Jose Jazz (SJZ) created the SJZ Jazz Aid Fund to provide SF Bay Area musicians a grant of $1,000 each for the creation of a new work. This fund allows them to support 33 musicians with a vital infusion of cash to live, work and create new musical works that will be premiered by SJZ.

Artists have been undoubtedly hurt by COVID-19. While this initiative is primarily focused on supporting artists, it is also grounded in the importance of the role of musicians in the community, in these difficult times. According to SJZ Board President Julie Ramirez:  "Music can bring comfort and joy, and a strong sense of community. Musicians and live music events are essential to our recovery not only from the fear, uncertainty and loss brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic, but also from the deep divisions our Country is experiencing."

Continued fundraising will allow SJZ to support even more artists in 2021. We look forward to the day where we can all gather together for live music events again.
