Dear Members and Downtown Stakeholders:

Public health officials of most Bay Area counties -- including Santa Clara County -- announced that they are going to enforce the latest state order to combat the Covid-19 disease starting 12:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6.

Bay Area Health Officials say that waiting for a 15% ICU vacancy rate is too late, and that many hospitals in the region are already near capacity for Covid-19 cases.

The state's message from Thursday had a vague starting date of "mid- to late-December.   Today's order will start Sunday at 12:59 pm., unfortunately halting outdoor dining through the holidays and allowing restaurants to serve by take-out, pickup and delivery only.

Timing for this order will extend to Jan. 4.  Here is the State Stay Home Order.

The county is aligning with the state's mandate with one exception -- per Dr. Cody, retail capacity will be 20% "across the board" through the holidays. That's one positive step from Thursday's pending order.
