Sunday – Quakes vs. Fire –  The party of the week is in San Jose this Sunday.  The inaugural match of the San Jose Earthquakes at their new Avaya Stadium is finally upon us.  Quakes vs. Chicago Fire.  4 p.m.  Beer.  Giant bar.  Sold out stadium that will be rocking.  And some soccer to boot.
Sunday – Getting to the game – The San Jose Downtown Association recommends that fans park downtown, especially at the Market-San Pedro Garage and hop onto a VTA shuttle bus (Line 231) to Avaya Stadium.  Hang out at a sports bar, watch the games, and then catch the bus starting two hours before the game at First and Santa Clara or Market and St. John streets.  For an hour afterward, catch the bus along Earthquake Way.  Leave the driving to and from.  Total cost (park and ride) will be less than $10 – Just a couple of bucks if you validate and get FREE weekend parking.  Park at the stadium and the cost will be $25-plus, plus the headache of all that traffic.  Let’s stay safe out there.  Here are the links: and

Friday  The Commons  The first Commons event of 2015 brings together synth pop ContainHer, violinist Isaiah Pekary, ballerinas Grace-Anne Powers and Austin Moholt-Siebert and a special performance by the 20-piece San Jose Jazz ensemble, as The Commons continues to put art in Downtown San Jose's public places. The Common's Vernal Equinox show is funded by a John S. and James L. Knight Foundation grant in partnership with the San Jose Downtown Association, The San Jose Museum of Art, The Fairmont San Jose and the Lazy Cocoon Sound and Cellista Music.  Free. 6:45pm, The Circle of Palms, 127 S.
