Swap New Year’s Resolutions for mantras to bring calm, clarity and joy to your life

Mantras are sacred, ancient chants and can be incredibly healing. They can help to soothe a busy ‘monkey mind’, calm worries and anxieties, encourage a connection with a higher state of being and promote mindfulness.

When done over time, you may start to experience profound changes to your sense of peace and wellbeing. A mantra singing practice can gently help you to nurture a positive connection with yourself and an appreciation for the gift of your own unique voice.

Singing can help to deepen your breathing while the meaning of the mantra itself can open your heart. It can open the door to deep inner healing and self-acceptance. You may slowly start to feel fears and self-limiting beliefs melt away as you grow a greater appreciation for who you are, and the beauty of the world around you.

FLY´s favourite mantras
Maha Mantra: Gayatri Mantra

Referred to as the mother of all Mantras, the Gayatri Mantra is an earnest and heartfelt appeal to the Supreme Being for enlightenment, which can be universally applied to all faiths and religions. According to the Vedas, whoever listens to or chants this mantra will be purified. Sage Vishvamitra, was given the Gayatri mantra by the Supreme Being as a reward for his many years of deep penance and meditation. This was to be a gift for all humanity and inspire wisdom. “May the divine light of the Supreme Being illuminate our intellect, to lead us along a path of righteousness.”

Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah

Tat Savitur Varenyam

Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi

Dhiyo yo nah pracho dayaat

O God, the giver of life, the remover of pain and sorrow, the bestower of happiness,

O Creator of the Universe, may we receive Your supreme sin-destroying light,

May you guide our intellect in the right direction.

Shanti Mantra: Yajur Veda

Often referred to as the peace mantra, dedicated solely to peace that is all encompassing and all pervading, this mantra is said to calm the mind of the reciter and environment around them. The final three recitations of shanti are to invoke peace (in the self), peace (in nature) and peace (with the divine forces).

Sahana Vavatu

Sahanaau bhunaktu

Tejaswina vadhi tamastu ma vidvisha vahai

Om shanti, shanti, shanti

May we be protected together.

May we be nourished together.

May we work together with great vigour.

May our study be enlightening.

May there be no hatred or animosity between us.

Om peace, peace, peace.

Shiva Shiva Shiva Shambo

Shiva is responsible for the creation and dissolution of the universe. He is the eternal yogi, blissfully unaffected by maya (illusion). He destroys our attachments and delusions and brings our liberation
