Opening Reception at Lyons Wier Gallery

Kevin Bourgeois' Graphite and Record Album Mixed Media Equinox Series in Music-Based Exhibition
On view from January 9 through February 8 is MIA in MIA, featuring the artwork of Tobias Batz, Kevin Bourgeois, Chris Cosnowski, Beau Dunn, James Gortner, Greg Haberny, Stephanie Hirsch, David Lyle, Anthony Mastromatteo, Cobi Moules, James Austin Murray, Aaron Nagel, Tim Okamura, Fahamu Pecou, James Rieck, and also featuring the grooves of DJ EQ-Knocks.

Kevin Bourgeois has been creating sociopolitical works on paper using primarily graphite for the last decade. He utilizes a combination of photorealism, illustration and pop symbolism that result in a fragmentation of surface and reality. Using a visual narrative of contemporary societal complexities, he relies on juxtapositions such as technology/human nature, individuality/consumer culture, and superficiality/altruism. Both multilayered in implementation and interpretation, he intends his art to deliver a message, while retaining a sense of ambiguity for the viewer.
