An Evening with Philip Smith Discussing the Exhibition
PHILIP SMITH: SIGN LANGUAGE and the Relationship Between the Artist's Paintings, Memoir and Forthcoming Showtime Series, WALKING THROUGH WALLS

Both WALKING THROUGH WALLS and PHILIP SMITH: SIGN LANGUAGE, the artist's current exhibition at Jason McCoy Gallery, offer insight into the life and mind of the artist, as well as his psychologically-charged images. The paintings are characterized by slightly visible erased imagery that serves as both memory and ghost-like images reminiscent of Smith’s childhood that was filled with séances and talking spirits. The result is a disorienting universe characteristic of Smith’s long association with both pop culture and metaphysical practices.
