At Foothills, our 1st-9th graders have the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning experiences outside the classroom through Spring Trips, where students travel with their class for trips that range from 3-10 days. Many of our students return from their Spring Trips tomorrow, and we've been fortunate to witness their amazing learning experiences through shared photos this week!
K Class - Botanical Garden & Foothills Learning Center
Our Kindergarten class enjoys two special field day trips each spring to celebrate together. This year they visited the Idaho Botanical Garden to see fairy houses and the Foothills Learning Center to look for animals and learn about our local environment.
1-2 Class - YMCA Horsethief Camp - Cascade
Students take their first overnight trip at Foothills when they're in our 1st and 2nd grade class. In two weeks, they'll travel to the YMCA Horsethief Camp for three days. There, students will get to canoe, rock climb, dissect owl pellets, practice archery, and play Gaga ball. (These two pictures are from past trips.)
3-4 Class - McCall Outdoor Science School
This winter our 3-4 class spent four days at MOSS (the McCall Outdoor Science School). They built snow forts, learned about collecting water quality data from beneath the frozen lake, hiked (and raced!) in snow shoes, and participated in team-building activities, skits, and cabin dance parties.
5-6 Class - Oregon Coast
Our 5-6 class spent this past week on the Oregon Coast near Newport. They visited tide pools in Boiler Bay, hiked to majestic lookout areas, enjoyed a Marine Discover Tour, visited the Newport Aquarium and Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center, and cooked meals for the group.
“I like how Foothills is a really safe and open environment
for students and teachers. I also love the spring trips we take because we get to have these amazing experiences, learn new things, and see cool places with our friends.”

7-8 Class - Portland, Oregon
Our 7th and 8th graders visited Portland this week. They visited Multnomah Falls, took in two theater performances, visited the Japanese Gardens, Portland Art Museum, Holocaust Museum, OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry), went to Powell's Bookstore and VooDoo Donuts, rode the Portland Aerial Tram, and played glow-in-the-dark mini-golf!
9th Grade Class - Belize
Our 9th graders spent the past 10 days in Belize. They got to go ziplining, explore caves and snorkel, visit Mayan temples and learn about the historical and cultural history of the area, spend time with students at two different schools (and deliver some school supplies), and practice using their Spanish.

Trips are always a big highlight of the year for our students! When we interview alumni, these trips often stand out as some of their most cherished memories of Foothills.
